Today I created my first computer program. It was just a very simple application that allows the user to enter the wisth and height of a rectangle then it calculates the area and perimeter and displays them in a textbox.

I've created programs before in this class but this one I did without any assistance from my teacher or copying the code from a book.

My teacher never just gives me the answers. He always ask me questions or points to things that make me think about what's going on. It's frustrating sometimes when I think I don't know why my code isn't working and he won't just tell me. But I keep thinking until the answer dawns on me then I be so happy that he let me figure it out because then I gain a better understanding and it makes him happy too.

So today I just analyzed the task and used the knowledge I've learned to formulate a solution which is what computer programming boils down to. I really really like this stuff.

Let's break out the champaigne, familee!

    Yea River!!!

Congratulations. That is a good feeling isn't it?? I have a BS in computer science and I am a data analyst at a software company. I remember sweating over C++ and java programs, wondering why mine just wouldn't work. Did you write "hello world" to the screen as your very first program? Thats what I did. Your logic will improve as you stick with it. Good Job.

I am very proud of you. I am learning to use Basic Programming languages myself. Additionally, I am learning to become a Computer Systems Analyst.

As for you, I look forward to hearing more information about your program(s). You know where to find me Mama River.

    Right On, River!!

just wait until you start looking at things-in-general as a set of program specifications and turn the steps to get it done into pseudo-code or a flow chart!! (oh, wait; maybe i'm dating myself?) that's the neatest bit i've found about learning that stuff; applying it to everyday life and being surprised at how cleanly life can flow sometimes - all it takes is examining all the bits ... like debugging code.

Enjoy the new knowledge! and keep staying Proud for the effort!! you've got all the reason in the world to feel that!!

(1; conceptualization. 2; program specifications. 3; pseudo-code. 4; flow chart. 5; coding. 6; debugging. repeat any/all of 1 thru 6 as often as needed. but i guess it might be done a bit differently today? i picked this up in 1980 and things have, indeed, changed since then!! "OOPS"? object oriented programming systems have bloat built in as a product of libraries with stuff in them that may not be needed for this particular application.)
