Brooklyn Community Bail Fund

Bail siphons money away from individuals and families struggling to make ends meet and presents those who can’t pay with a cruel choice: plead guilty as charged or go to jail. Every year millions of Americans are incarcerated simply because they can’t post bail, including 45,000 people in New York City alone.

By paying bail for New Yorkers who can’t afford it, we are keeping people out of jail, protecting the presumption of innocence, and proving that cash bail is not only unjust, but also unnecessary.

Thank You Sister IFE ...

The video is great, demonstrating the depth of the pain. Brother OldSoul had a class on this, about the whole plead'n deal ... dang ... my heart goes out. I am the Mother of a Young Black Man ... I know the fear ... check this out ... Would You Put Your Home Up for Bail / Bond? ... yep, a topic close to my heart ... I useta tell my Son all the time ... still do tell him ... be careful, don't go baby ... he knew all the time ... we must let our Sons know what they are up against ... shoot ... our Daughters too.

They are never safe. Useta be I thot, get 'em grown, but that aint no 'nuff neither.

I'm beginning to wonder if knowing and abiding by the law ... counts for us.

Thank you for the bail bond options too! ... :toast:

Sister ... I had a thread on that too ... Bail Bond Business ... it's real in these streets!

Having what you've shared makes it all the sweeter! ...

I LOVE YOU ... THANK YOU! ...

From Stopping Black People to Killing Black People: The Fourth Amendment Pathways to Police Violence
Devon W. Carbado*

The years 2014 to 2016 likely will go down as a significant if not watershed period in the history of U.S. race relations. Police killing of African Americans has engendered further conversations about race and policing. Yet, in most of the discussions about these tragic deaths, little attention has been paid to a significant dimension of the police violence problem: the legalization of racial profiling in Fourth Amendment law.

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The 4th Amendment is not for us. Reads like the 13th Amendment

4th Amendment: But upon probable cause

13th Amendment: Unless convicted of a crime

I still taught my son to assert his 4th amendment rights

ArchCity Defenders, St. Louis Action Council and Decarcerate St. Louis Partner To Get People Out of Jail and Help Them Get Home

The need to radically transform the criminal legal system in order to end mass incarceration as well as other remaining vestiges of slavery, peonage, Jim Crow, and the drug war is clear. Organizations within the Movement for Black Lives are partnering to highlight the impacts of the money bail system on the black community this Mother’s Day and beyond. Every year, tens of thousands of people are held in jail for low level contact with the criminal legal system and are trapped because they cannot afford to pay bail.
