Peace Family (my Black Brothers & Sisters,)

This question occured to me as I sat thinking yesterday about my religious views. I'm not a Christian and I'm not a member of any religion but I do believe that there is Someone(s) or Something that alone deserves to be worshipped. What or Who ever that Someone(s) or Something is answered a prayer of mine the day after I prayed and that answer changed my life.

Anyway, so for any Bible-believer, if God is a Spirit why is He called in the scriptures "He" and not "It?"

I think it has everything with the fact that Bible was written by 'men' as well.

If I wrote it, I'd most likely had referred to God as 'she'. ;)

The easy answer is that scriptures are written by men, not God.
Question for you: What scriptures are you actually referring to?

    Peace Sister I'm Becoming Me,

So you don't believe that the Bible is a true book but you do believe in a God? and you believe that that God is a woman? Can I ask what exactly makes you believe that God is a woman?

    Peace & Love,
    Bro. Ictoan

Thanks Bro for answering. I was referring to John 4:24 in the Bible:

    John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

All of the Abrahamic scriptures call God "He," and not "It"...

The Christians believe that ALL scriptures are God-inspired, if I'm not mistaken.

    Peace & Love,
    Bro. Ictoan

Peace Ictoan Itkfae... interesting question ... The term "it" suggests an absence of intelligence... where "spirit" is intelligence or intellect... example: Benevolence and Malevolence are spiritual counterparts of a person... "where ever your mind (spiritual) resides so shall your behind follow"... By the way "GOD" also referred to as ANU and RA... is a person as well as the supreme spirit... the term "it" would not apply to the Supreme Being of this Universe... Peace

    Peace my Brother,

Thanks for replying and shedding some light. There are so many definitions of the word "spirit," like "air," "the energy of human life," "a supernatural immaterial being," etc. But the definition of "he" (from Dictionary.com) is:

    noun, plural hes.
    3.
any male person or animal; a man: hes and shes.

So referring to God as "He" means that God is a male person or animal. A spirit would classify as an "it" because it is not a person...

You sound kind of knowledgeable about Ancient Egyptian religion. If you know the answer to this, does Ancient Egyptian religion teach to worship all of the gods (the Ancient Egyptian gods) or does it teach worship of just the "Supreme God?"

    Morning to you Bro. Icotan..

First, let me say that one does not have to believe the Bible to be a true book in order to believe in God. Being that God is a Spirit, you don't need to have read anything about God in a book in order to believe that.

Second, I believe some of the Bible is true and other parts are a mix of myth, ignorance, and opinion.

I believe God is referred to as man in the scriptures because it is written by 'males' and I do believe the EGO of a man would have God to be nothing less than a man. ;) So, I was really just being sarcastic when I said I would call God female if I wrote it.

I think we all create God/Universe/Spirit (or whatever we choose to call 'it')in our own image, although I must add that I do believe God to have both male and female characteristics, just not so much literally.

    Peace my beloved Sister,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

So, what then to you is a "spirit," or what does "spirit" mean when you say "God is a Spirit?"

    Peace & Love,
    Bro. Ictoan
