A quarter-century after rapper-actor Ice-T stirred up controversy with his metal band Body Count’s signature song, “Cop Killer,” police brutality is in the public eye more than ever. Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Keith Scott, Alton Sterling, and Philando Castile are just a few of the more publicized cases, but in 2016 alone more than 250 black people were killed by police officers in America, according to the Guardian; and 64 cops have also been killed in the line of duty — 25 of them murdered in “ambush-style shootings,” reports NPR ...

Ice-T is one of the founders of gangsta rap; his first few albums changed the game and his influence is still felt in hip-hop today. He’s expanded far outside hip-hop; his metal band, Body Count, release their next album Bloodlust, on March 31, and he’s been a cast member on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit since 2000 (the show recently celebrated its 400th episode) ...
