LBJ? A racist? Of the worst kind! The man's from Texas. Foul mouth? Totally uncouth. I can remember when the announcement came over the school intercom when I was in 8th grade, announcing that Kennedy had been assassinated and Lyndon sworn in, I exclaimed, there's a woman president? I thought they said Linda, but my teacher gently corrected me. lol That was still during a time when Jim Crow was practiced even though the Supreme Court had ruled it illegal 10 years prior. Pressure was put on Lyndon once he took office, to enforce the law even though he didn't want to but was smart enough to read tea leaves and see that Black people were revving up to protest in mass and hurt his chances of a re-election.I had no idea that LBJ was a hard core racist until I found an article online in 2015 reviewing Robert Kessler's book.
How LBJ racially abused his chaueffer and how he spoke vile and racist remarks about blacks.
One of the most iconic photo in black american history is the one where Johnson is handing out ink pens to Dr. King and Roy Wilkins and other great civil rights leaders after signing the civil rights bill.
This is the picture every black child has viewed the past 52 years in their american history books. Just to see LBJ appear to be a liberal minded white who seemed to care for human rights was all too misleading. What an old racially two faced pig he was.
I guess if we could put microphones in all white politicians private settings we would faint after hearing their true feelings about African Americans.
Lyndon was a big white man. His presence and blunt way of talking that was backed by his wife's money, intimidated the heck out of his own people in Washington. He was not what they were used to and he was a great negotiator. I heard tell that he would hold cabinet meetings in the Oval Office while sitting on the toilet taking a dump, with the door open.
No, Lyndon was not the second emancipator of Black people. He did what he thought was politically expedient to do when he signed the CRA of 1964, with MLK standing and witnessing. Never because he had an affinity or respect for Black citizens. As the saying goes, you scratch a white liberal and you'll find a racist every time.
