    ~For Jean~

amid the hum and buzzing of the monitors
    maintaining her vital organs

she whispered inaudible words in his ear...
the Pastor leaned close to her face
she was too frail to sit up any longer

    we all had been concerned
that someone on the staff had
    abused her...
    she was blind, helpless

    in her lucid moments
she had been saying things, horrid
    things, crying ~ moaning

and then she would lapse into an incoherent state...

I knew she had been dreaming...I knew
    the demons of her past
and how she'd spent her life covering up her shame...

and now the devil had returned
to jeer her in her weakest hour

    I knew this...

so when she whispered, "I have fallen"...
he didn't understand...he assured her she had not...
that she was secure in her bed...

with all the strength left in her body,
she took his hands in hers, and shook
    her head "NO"...she breathed,
    "I have fallen!"...

as understanding began to grow on his face...

    he began to pray...
and the tears rolled down her cheeks
    and mine

the angels formed a circle of protection round about her bed...

I believe in her last moments
    when her unsighted eyes looked
    toward the ceiling

she saw the face of God

This piece is so compelling ... and so very real!! Words can not fully express what this scribe has spoken to me. I can tell you that it's so real that I felt as though I was there at this hospital, in this very room, witnessing all of these events as they occurred.

Thanks for bringing me along ... inside the lines of this prose...

    One luv.

    I wish I had a blanket...to spread

words have escaped me...there are no words...only this feeling of 'knowing' that somehow...your words have enabled me to travel through time...to see the places I have never seen...except for those precious moments spent in between your lines. Right here..at this moment...is the reason why I read you...because you cross the borders of time. Today...you brought the sound of death..."I have fallen"....and there can be no doubt...that Jean was not heard by us all.

And maybe...what often seems like such a tremendous responsibility as a poet...as a 'teller of time'...is just that simple. Maybe...all we are suppose to do...is to give voice to the dead....to leave our own 'voices' behind....for others...to benefit from our echo...

Yes...Jean has me thinking today A....thinking....
