As I tasted the blood flowing
    between my teeth,
    I sensed the swelling of
    The Jordan in my cheek.
    I could not speak.
    So I prayed within...
God deliver me from his vicious sin.
Give me a divine plan to get
    Away from this man.:eeek:
My reasoning...I will no longer defend.

Like Job...I shall arise from my ashes.

    God has strengthen me and
    Granted me, my request.
    Now I finally realize that
    Leaving this man is best.
I have made up my mind!
    This is the last time,
That my body will be subject
    To his vicious crimes.
    What is my consolation?
    In the name of Christ,
    I will overcome this situation.

I shall arise from my ashes...

I was blind and could not see you as
    A monster before my eyes.
I was deaf and did not
    Hear your wrenched lies.
You made my day a 24 hour darkness.
    But I shall arise and
    My night shall be gone.
I can feel the sprinklings of
    A brand new dawn.

    Surely, this I know...
I shall arise from my ashes.

I will not be held back by hate.
I'm going on with my life for my sake.
I am not inferior to you.
Your sick love won't hold me like it use too.
    The scars I wear inside,
Did not totally destroy my pride.

    I'm going to school. :teach:
Gonna make something out of myself.
To let your 'put downs' hinder me,
Would be a curse worse than death.
You said I was nothing and
    Always would be stupid,
    But now I am arising,
Though you thought I'd never do it!

Sometime later, you may have the nerve to
Ask somebody, how I am doing...

    Somebody will tell you
    I am a doctor,
    Giving hope to the sick.
    Somebody will tell you
    I am a lawyer,
    Prosecuting the slick.
    Somebody will tell you
    I am a light,
    Caring for the lonely
    Well into the night.
    Somebody will tell you
    I am a teacher,
    Revealing to minds
    The power of insight.
    Somebody will tell you that
    I am a poet,
    Scribing on you so that
    Others will know it.
    Somebody will tell you that
I have a successful business of my own.
God has greatly blessed me and
Uprooted the seed that you had sown.
    Somebody will say to you...
    Don't worry about her.

    In spite of your lashes...
She has arisen from her ashes. :spinn:

    reply to Joyce

A masochist leaves the play ground today
A sadist wants her to continue to play
The pain he gives is more then she expected
Her disfigured face spewing out life’s river
Pregnant with pain and about to deliver
Horror and terror to sadistic play mate
Because with loneliness he has a date

Wow. I could feel the bitter taste of fear and betrayal of heart in this, but then, I could also sense the awakening of pride. This was so well written, as painful as it was to read.

    Joyce,
Very Powerful Writing on Self Esteem, Determination, and Victory etc.
i hope a lot of people and organizations that work to help abused people read this.....
It can serve as an en-light-tenment for folks suffering abuse
    thinking there is no use.....
Especially battered women... but all, since the patterns and priciples are very similar...
When these occurances of battering don't break the spirits and derange the minds and emotions of the victims we find great strength and ecouragement for others coming forth......

    Peace and Blessings....

Thank you poets. I am glad you were all touched by this piece. I was inspired to write this poem after walking through a bad situation with a dear friend of mine. She was a physical therapist, who suffered needless beatings at the hand of her husband. She even woke up one night with a shot gun pointed at her head. Eventually, they divorced...she got the house. They had no children...thankfully. She quit her job and went to law school in Tallahassee. They told her that she would not be able to work AND do law school studies, because the studies were to intense and demanded all of your time. However, she HAD to work because no one else was feeding her or paying her bills. She prayed all the way through that Jesus would help her continue to make good grades while she worked and went to college. Boy, did He do a miracle for her. She worked right up the the very end plus graduated with HONORS:teach:...the top honor at that...I can't spell dat word but it's the one that starts with an L I believe. Anyway she moved down south and became a powerful prosecuting attorney. :spinn:

I too, had to escape a boyfriend (thank God it was a very short time that we were together) that was abusive...my husband is my knight in shining armor...he help me remove that guy out of my life. :flirt:

So you can imagine why this poem means a lot to me.

    ~j
