sometimes I compete with my sisters and brother for your attention because they have something of you I'll never have

part of your body, not just all of your heart

I never experienced their perfect fetal slumber in
the warmth of your womb, so I didn't recognize your
heartbeat the first time you held me close
when I was 9 years old

I think I would have been better if I'd been fed your love
through my pre-natal cord instead of the toxic substances
my birth mother laced with alcohol...

but that did not destroy me, and God sent you to restore me

But I'm only human, so sometimes I compete for your attention with my sisters and my brother....

have the most ridiculous problems
call you up so you can solve them... you know...just so you'll notice

that I still need my mommy's love

The Joy Of Adoption

Thank you so much for sharing this poem. James would truly love this one and feel you ALL the way on it, becuz he lived it.
The flow on this poem was so easy. The experience was unveiled, line by line which such clarity...there was no need to second guess. The reader knows right away, that they have a clearer view into the life of one who is loved by the one who "rescued" them.

*He grafted me in...I am so thankful*
