I asked this question in a black Facebook group but oddly no one could help me. I'm a homebody and I don't get out much. Because of this I believe it's caused me to have a lighter skin tone on my chest and my underarms. It is not a result of it being winter. This is year round. What are some ways that I can darken these areas? Is it as simple as just "getting more sun"?

Several things. There is no way around it, you need to get more sunlight. Find you a suntan lotion with a bronzing agent. You also need to eat more foods such as citrus with a high Vitamin D content.

Citrus typically is rich in Vitamin C but orange juice is where you get the Vitamin D from. Here are some others.

Instead of meat try a whey protein mix with soy if you can digest it. It's better mixed with water. The more sunlight, the more water you will need to drink to avoid dehydration. Fish or cod liver supplements should work as well. Increase fiber intake into your diet.

I used to workout alot outside when I was in Atlanta because of the over sun exposure I developed skin dehydration and skin problems. I am medium lightskin, when I got to California this problem increased, later I learned from my doctor to use sunblock. If you are out in the sun for long periods of time and you're sweating, the sweat drains your skin of moisture and like dry bush catching fire in the sun so will your skin. My solution lead me to start using sun block or sun tan lotion, which not only cured my problem but gave me a nice dark tint which looked pretty good on me. Darkskin is lovely, people hate on darkskin but darkskin people don't have the sun problems lighter skin and white skin people have also their skin has more moisture, darkskin looks younger, smoother and more sturdier. Go for the sunblock it works!

I forgot to mention using a skin lotion and/or moisturizer that contains cocoa or Shea butter, regularly. The more your skin is moisturizers, the more it will glow, and the more even the tone, even if it doesn't get darker. That is why fatty omega 3 is important.
