Over the years I have witnessed children at play. One of the things that I have noticed is that if a child is given a kitten they want the ginger coloured one, white or brown. No one wants a black cat.
Even in a child's early life he has been conditioned to think that black is no good.

I believe it is our duty as parents and grandparents to instill within our family the need to appreciate our own.

A friend of mind was very upset because I told her I will not marry a white man. She felt that I was making a racist statement. Strange enough IF a white person had said that they do not want to marry a black person that would be understandable...

I don't know about others; but I don't feel an affinity with cats. The rejection of black cats as a symbol of a deficiency 'to appreciate our own' seems a bit of a stretch.

I am actually the opposite, although I get along with dogs, I really love cats. never can have one now since my wife is allergic to them, but when I was young, there was always a few i took under my wing or simply was around... or around me.

I had a black cat... with jade green eyes.

She was the most beautiful cat I've ever seen in my life.

I don't care for pets. But I don't think one should look at a "black cat" as closer to Black people than "white cats." I think that kind of reasoning ignores the reality that cats are just cats.

I'd admit the propaganda of 'black cats' may be part of a pattern of making 'black' bad, but I wouldn't take the rejection of a cat as an affront on me.
