twisting and turning
gnawing on my empty insides
your name on her tongue
brings thoughts to my mind

she ate all your lies
and called me to say
that his life is looking
better and better each day
he's got a job
he saw his daughter
he doesn't rob
he won't slaughter
a pat on the back
is that what he's after?
39 years old
just figuring out what matters.

i can't erase this image
from my head
he's dipping and dabbing
the words that she said
so how good is his life
if he's using cocaine
i smile to myself
may all his days rain

i don't feel remorse for
wishing these thoughts
i could have killed him
and never been caught.

instead, it is me still
carrying the pain
the one who has nightmares
and calls out in vain
the one who remembers
watching you struggle
trying to help you
grasping to pull you out of the rubble
it is me you hurt with
your words and fists
for the things you have done
I can never forget.
