Black History : I have a question

I apologize if I did not make that post clear. Please keep in mind that just like every human being: I WILL MAKE MISTAKES.

By the way, when you said, "American culture is OUR culture dressed up as theirs...", that is what I mean when I say, "We started it, they just made it over and claim that it belongs to them."

We really need to change society, and what better time than NOW?!

You feel me?

What exactly in this society has originated from African society.... we may not know the particulars but i must say we all know that there are things that were invented by the African.... but what of society as a whole... what examples can you present to satiate a brothers starving mind...?

Brother Biorhythm, this particular forum is chock full of examples of African cultural items which our ancestors brought here... Just as our "slang" and vernacular speech, and artforms become accepted and assimilated by the larger society, so has our culture... One has to search and ferret out that which is culturally African... For example, there are words in the language which many think - or perhaps, never think - are African in origin... Banana, Yam, tote, cooter, juke, funki, jam, jelli, and so on... As you can see, the spellings, and perhaps even, the meanings have changed, but the words are of African origin.

One of our problems as a people is that 50 years ago, we could not teach African history if we wanted to... It was completely out of our control... Now that we have the capacity, the scholarship and research to do so, we still are not in control of any school systems in the country... Much worse, Africna people appear not to be interested in things African... The internet, where lots of information can be found, is not even utilized as it should be... Perhaps, the internet actually makes us lazy, too lazy to do the hard work of making a trip to the library... In this forum, there is a lot of info, but folk are not reading the information... They're still asking us where can i find this information??? why, it is right here - if we bother to look...(smile!)

Peace!
Isaiah
