    I Failed

    I fell

    No! I didn’t fall down
Didn’t play the clown when you up and left town
Didn’t give in to selfish needs
Didn’t bleed tears of “Please, don’t leave”

    FOR WHAT?

    I fell

I didn’t fall out of love
Nor did I rush out to get laid
Didn’t misbehave like so many others do
Didn’t keep my feelings hid from you

    I was hurt

I fell into a tormented way
Cried everyday of that first day
    As I subconsciously hit replay
    Reliving what I thought was
    Our story
    Our life
    Our way

    I failed

Failed to recognize lies and alibis that others saw
    I trusted you
    Trusted you to be true
    To stay true
To rise above the status quo of what others do
Thought that game was beneath you

    Yes…
    I failed

Failed to get beyond that magic line called “Relationship Success”
I guess becoming a statistic is when I’ve done my best

    Yes…
    I fell

    For your conniving ways
    And playa dayz
And always saying things you know weren’t true
    Like…“I love you”

    I failed

Failed to tell pain and frustration of their castration
…that they can’t live here anymore
Failed to place a red mark upon my home
…to prevent tears of sorrow from entering my door

    I failed

But I didn’t fail to live up
    …or fill life’s proverbial cup
And I won’t fail to maintain
    Or entertain
The many mysteries of life I’m destined to gain

    Nor did I fail you
I didn’t fail to be true
    …and I won’t fail to get through
This circle of drama life has put me through

    I fell

    Yet, I stand

    Brother Poet baller,

When you bring the heat you burn the house down. It seems the subject in this piece needed to excise some feelings so that he could as you say, "Yet, I stand" Nicely done, my friend. Thank you for sharing. I am definitely waiting to read more. (smile)

I love this piece! It details pain, rejection, the inward torment. But I love the finish. From defeat to resilience.
    Great write, poet.

totalview / abstract219. too often, we fall for the wrong person. just as often, we want to strike back when someone hurts us. sometimes, it's nice when someone takes the higher road and, even through the pain, stand tall. yes, a failed love hurts. but it doesn't have to cripple us. and it doesn't have to bring us down into the gutter. WE CAN LOSE WITH DIGNITY...WITH OUR HEADS HELD HIGH.

    THANKS for reading.

This reminds me of my past marriage, even though it was the worst relationship. I never wanted to strike back but help and i finally realized i couldnt and if i loved myself then i should leave because love wasnt there mutually. I still have hope unlike other people who cant find it to wait in patience for someone worthy. Ive heard people say they are not getting married again imo its a sad and lonely way of living.

there must always be the hope of happiness...something that we can look forward to...that keeps us going. unfortunately, too few of us are willing to put in the effort required to make our relationships work--getting to know the person we're with, respecting each other...as well as the roles we play within the relationship, and maintaining that relationship by filling our mate's needs, thereby having our needs met, as well.

sorry for rambling. THANKS for reading.:)

    you're never rambling when you're sharing wisdom...or saying a helping kind word(s)
from what I see a lot of people have all these "preferences" they call them instead of searching for substance. In my opinion a woman and man should make compromises where they can to please one another. People will never find their good mate being vain and picky like that because no one is going to be tailored to their desires like you find clothes.
