    I APPLAUD YOU BLACK YOUNGSTER

I applaud you black youngster, for to my future you are essential
Not only do I applaud your current state of development … I applaud your potential
I applaud your pursuit of the positive that pushes back our moral thinage
That’ll help contribute – one person at a time – to our positive self image
You want to be that doctor, lawyer or teacher that knows which way your path is directed
A police officer or a preacher helping to keep our legal and moral compasses corrected
How about a movie maker of film features that gives us a face to be respected
I applaud you, Gods marvelous creature, after His own image you’ve been erected
I applaud you for not seeking to fulfill the destiny of the stereotypical asinine
For wanting to be yourself and from the ridiculous, resign
For choosing to take the high road to an objective you’d like to reach
Leaving the low road to those of lesser character with dreams halted to a ground screech
For honoring your mother and father that your days may be long
For taking the time to bother to do the right thing and to shun the wrong
For having the courage to stand alone against all odds and none else
I applaud you black youngster for having the audacity to be yourself

I applaud you black youngster – little lady … little man
When I see you respecting yourself … I’m you’re biggest fan
When I see that you’ve set goals and are following the plan
I see you helping yourself … I’m gonna’ help you out any way that I can
I firmly believe that it takes a village to raise a child
And as your elder I applaud you for not running wild
For keeping to some semblance of home training and not behaving like a hellion
For holding to some wholesome values and not giving yourself over to rebellion
Young prince and princess I applaud you for keeping your focus on the prize
For looking to your future and keeping it before you eyes
Not loosing sight of your aspirations, slowly walking towards your objective primes
Having began your journey of 1000 miles with your first step, moving one step at a time
For holding success in your sights and keeping it in your fixation
Not only do I applaud you … I give you a standing ovation
For staying on your path no matter which way it veers
I applaud you in the highest extol … I give you props and three cheers

I applaud you black youngster for not deeming yourself useless
For doing what you have to do and not making excuses
For taking hold of bad situations, not letting them worsen
For taking responsibility for your actions, as a young person
For not blaming others for bad decisions of your actions, mistook
For taking the time to reflect and take an inward look
For taking the time to resolve situations that rocked you, and had you shook
Mastering what some adults have yet to master, you get high character marks in my book
I see that you don’t play the dumb role and claim a level of senility
You answer for your actions … which shows accountability
You model a degree of discipline to stand in the face of alarm and fear
And posses a measure of confidence that makes you stand out amongst your peers
I applaud your leadership – full of substance with nothing hollow
For being exemplary … a person that others want to follow
For being an inspiration … and one to stimulate
I applaud you black youngster for being one, others want to emulate

I applaud you black youngster for keeping your head uplifted
For having the confidence and assurance in knowing that you’re young, black and gifted
For walking boldly in your talent and intelligence, I eulogistically laud you
For standing up to be a leader … that’s among the many reasons I applaud you
For not following the crowd into a mass of madness
For taking an unpopular stand that keeps you out of brazen badness
To be, not so much rewarded, but vindicated when all situations garner consequences
Having truth and right on your side – the foundation of all righteous defenses
You can be anything you want, and choose to be
You can change the world and the things you use to see
Yours can be the thought that changes the way people think
Your words can cause peoples esteem either to rise, or to sink
You hold a lot of potential power that becomes kinetic as you grow
With the strength of an advancing glacier that moves ever so slow
You’re princes and princesses, kings and queens keeping your minds out of the dumpster
For being the royalty that you are, I applaud you black youngster

The mechanics of this piece alone, wowed me. Rhyming in couplets, and never missing a beat. And then there was your message, which is so on point. I had to highlight these lines, cause the impact made me pause and say, "Umph", as I read them...

But this piece had a host of quotables poet. Brilliant.

Vulnerable and humble, I read this poem and I just have to thank YOU poet for writing this piece. A lot of places you hear negative things about younger generations but even though there are things still need to be worked on, there are those with the mindset you present in this poem. Thank God for poetry

:bowdown: You took the time out to give praise to those who constantly struggle in today's society, but out of GOD's strength and family's love continue and are able to make it. It is definitely hard these days. and They need someone to know that. And they need someone to show that. Shining poem garlic salt. Very shining

wow. I am glad that there is someone focusing on the ones that are doing right instead of spotlighting the negative ones of the next generation for contrary to popular belief there are some martins, malcoms, and obamas coming up in this next generation. So thanks for keeping it all in a positive light.
