I AM

I am black.
What exactly is that?
Black is me.

I recite and memorize
My identity within the mind-
In case my actions should ever contradict…
So I could find
And with this knowledge verify
Exactly who I am.
Then act accordingly as a man.
(Not just a simple man-no! More than…)
To my very core, I am a black man,
This is no trained tan-
No deceit of skin tone.
This is felt in my very BONES.
In my soul so abundant, I could telephone
Fax…email it.
Because this blackness, this- is so real.

I feel…

So confident.
This confidence is common sense
No joke and its
Logical to cherish this blackness.
Widely imitated,
Never duplicated.
Always complicated
By what the media portrays as black
(As if they would know)
Well I say ***** them, and fu*k that
Let's demolish and attack
The generalizations they see in their ignorance as fact.
Besides
There are way too many dimensions of us
For them to ever understand.

They admire us, sometimes our biggest fans-
But they prosecute and hate us too
(The government and the Klu Klux Klan)
But amidst all the hype and hate
I keep a calm mind and face.
Eye of the storm- no you can't erase
This blackness- it's past, present, and FATE.

I am black
Black is me
This is the basis for my identity.
You will NEVER, EVER see
Me in any other tint
I wouldn't know how to wear it.
Wouldn't want to.
