Mende Nazer was born in the remote Nuba Mountains in Sudan, but at the age of 12 she was abducted during a raid on her village, and sold into slavery.

For several years she worked for an Arab woman in Khartoum, before being passed on to a relative of her master, who lived in London. There, eventually, she managed to escape.
Mende joins Jenni to tell her shocking story of modern day slavery, and about how she's coming to terms with a new life as a free woman.
Slave by Mende Nazer and Damien Lewis is published by Virago Press; ISBN: 1844081141

I know this may sound naive but you would think blacks selling blacks as slaves would be the last thing anyone of us would do to another black. But that says alot about the people that bought her and passed her on to family members.

    Peace!

    I can't figure this out

As the descendants of those who have endured 400 years of such horrors,

how in the world that with the number of prominent Blacks who can command the ear of the press, Black politicians and clergy and so called leaders,

that we do not right here in the US have international NGOs or Pressure groups to work to
put an end to Africans being enslaved????

with a Trillion dollars and the latest technologies in communications and networking I don't understand!!!!

    Where is our heart??????????????????

I presumed everyone had a little background knowledge in respect to the situation in Sudan, specifically our resident journalist...looks like i was wrong..

Did anyone actually LISTEN to the woman? did anyone actually HEAR what she was saying???? it has been said over and over again on destee.com that American definition of ''Black'' is NOT recognized worldwide. We do ourselves a disservice when we look at things from narrow and rigid perspectives.
