I speak my poetry because it is too free flowing
To be locked in cages of white pages
It rages like the Nile from South to North
Springing forth from my larynx like newly freed slaves....
I’ve got poems to write
Recite
Stage and orally speak aloud
Get up and scream
Out from my mouth
Bellow blows of lyrical prose
I live in books
Will not stop and if I have to, will body block and...
Throw them bows – to compose my lyrics,
Write essays
Expose life’s fiction for the non-fiction it really is
Give speeches,
Tell stories, and see what kind’s of talk teaches…
With text from my lips
I use my tongue to do the writing in walls of insight
I would love to sit around and play games with you
But I can’t
Cuz I’ve got poems to write
Have a two-way ticket to the Green Mill and Barrister House,
the Greenwich Tavern and the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe
I’m on a ride traveling different roads
But like many, to the same destination
Will invite you to relieve some pain
Feel me out
Hear me out
Allow this stuff to rain
Down your inner corridors
Have you searching inside yourself
Go places in your mind that you have never been
Find memories
That, have long been hidden
Take time out
You may not have time for me
But I have got time for you
I need to feed my inner soul
Create and build insight
Don’t want to give into the hypocrisy
Cuz I’ve got poems to write
They scream out from my skin
And speak to me at night
I fight with society and my own closet secrets
Challenge the majority of consistently inconsistent bigots
Not all at once, only in bits and pieces
Make fun of politicians because it is easy
Show the world that I am not going to be part of their live reality stage play of AMOS and ANDY
On stage is where I begin to tell
The truth and how I see it
I’ve got poems inside of me
See
It is not only I
You too need to mentally let go
Instead of rush into what you say
Think and think
Until you on the brink
Then think again
Take some time to create your flow
I know the exact feelin’
We all get egos
From props we receive on stage
Win awards
Slam contest
And fancy accolades
Have so many amazed
At the nouns, verbs and syllables raised
But remember that this thing is bigger
Then any one person may claim
It’s never been about you or me
It’s always been
The poetry
The philosophy
The history
I present the truth
So you can free/ yourself
From yourself
If you’re caught up, then remove self, from everyone else
For all ya’ll here, I have no apologies
So open your eyes
To finally
Know that this is truth
And it will never be
Hidden or defined
Prepackaged
Or derived
This won’t be boxed nor will it be plagued
Even when you can’t search yourself for a cure
I don’t know what I would have ever done
If I couldn’t write no more
Starving for ink or lead
Or if I’m missing paper by my bed
I’ve said it before
If you have an idea or short story
Share it so you can inspire me
Put it on paper
A napkin or sheet
Whatever you can find
Record
And please believe
This
Has never been about me
It’s always been the poetry
Don’t you see?
Here, just to make sure
I’ll give this to you – to continue
