These days, those titles could actually be synonymous.

However, since the food chain heirarchy is measured by who/what has the least amount of competition and/or predators, and since we easily succumb to viruses, and they hardly ever succumb to us, I would say that VIRUSES outrank us on the food chain.

    PEACE

the bio tech industry recently held it's convention here in philly.
since i live down the street from the convention center they were all sitting at my lunch counter eating Chinese.
i asked a bunch of laptop, PDA, cell phone toting white guys how long it would be before they could kill any of the major viruses.
they looked at me and said, "don't hold your breath".

BTW - they had the finest hos of any convention group so far.
these ladies was not from around philly.

The food chain is not a chain at all. It's a circle. The bodies of all living things return to it's non-living elements. The only thing wasted is potential.

    Peace.....

virus exist on the boundary between the living and the non living.

if i would have been able to go to school back when i was young i would have studied micro biology.

    Pure elements or componds that:

    1. Don't consume other matter.

    2. Don't reproduce or replicate itself.

    3. Don't grow from the consumption of other matter.

    4. Don't move without being acted upon by forces.

    5. Are the building blocks for living matter.

The difference between something dead and non-living is the dead was once alive or part of something that was living. The dead are also in the process of decomposition. Obviously something living is the opposite of something non-living.

Good to see you back brother......

I wouldn't say that. Viruses are definately living. As bacteria is as well. Viruses reproduce and die. Now if you mean conscious existence like a being that has awareness thats another story. Though viruses have life are they really living? Only God and viruses know........
