HOW TO READ A PERSON LIKE A BOOK - by Oscar Bruce

The human mind is an innovative hybrid that allows us to anticipate the future - to think big thoughts. That's the good news.

However a growing number of psychologists and behavioral scientists are finding evidence that our brains are hard-wired for mistakes in today social environment, especially when it comes to assessing the personality and predicting behavior of people we encounter.

Why are we so bad at reading the intentions of others? Built on top of the older "emotional" parts of our mamallian circuitry, there is a "rational" cerebral cortex. The two are often at odds, and under the surface, our protective instincts are always lurking. Unfortunately the "emotional" circuitry frequently overwhelms the "rational" cortex. We simply give more weight to elements in the personality of people we encounter that supports our beloved preconceptions than to any evidence to the contrary. Thus we frequently completely miss the target and pay a price of our misjudgments.

    ACQUIRING THE SKILLS
    FOR READING GESTURES
“Learning is acquired by reading books, but the much more necessary learning, the knowledge of the world, is only to be acquired by reading men, and studying all the various editions of them.”— Lord Chesterfield, “Letters to His Son”

AN airport is an excellent spot for viewing the entire human emotional spectrum. As travelers arrive and depart, you can see the woman who is very apprehensive about flying pinching the fleshy part of her hand for reassurance, as if she were saying to herself, “It’s going to be all right.” In the same manner people say, “I had to pinch myself to make sure that it wasn’t a dream.” A male waiting for departure time may also be unsure about flying. However, he is sitting in a rigid, upright position with his ankles locked. His hands are clenched together, making one big fist, while he rhythmically massages one thumb against the other on top of his interlocked hands. These gestures indicate a nervous attitude.

Is it right to say a person need to know what Truth, Reality, lies, and deception is before they can read another like a book?

If not, how will they be able to know True and False?

today's social environment is not actually suitable to the natural environment that Mother Nature created. and since we, too, are natural by-products of that natural environment, this "social environment" that was created to support the evolutionarily challenged is full of tricks and traps.

it's not our brains that are "hard-wired for mistakes", it's the "social environment"!
