Black and Spanish rubbed together like sand paper I am not
By any means meant for you to reach spiritual understanding.
I am only willing to teach you how to make fish cakes.
Onion, potatoes, parsley, cod fish and salt.
Stir, roll in a ball and fry until both sides are golden brown.

Please do not assume that I know all people of Bermuda,
Which is a government name that they gave us,
We are many and we are wise,

I will not dance for you
I will not sing for you
You say I am strong, if you tell me one more time
I will lie on the ground and moan so you can see
how weak I really am.
So you can see my human weakness like your own.

Look at my face
Look at my heart, not your own fantasies,
Pain,
hurt,
loneliness,
See my cracked hands?
They have washed the same things that you washed.

I don’t need you to tell me
How I can heal myself for $300.
Look at my heart not your fantasies
See the struggle in my back?
See my eyes dark with a struggle while I am in my house late at night?
There is no magic
To pity me and to adore me is the same.

Onion, potatoes, cod fish, parsley, and salt.
That’s my recipe there are others.
