How The Treble Clef Built The Underground Railroad

    The railroad
    Did not lead them
    To freedom

    It was

    The treble clef

    That first gave them
    A sign

    And
    Oppression
    Kept the beat

    In
    Cotton time

    Harmonized

    With the
    Negro spirituals
    That they sang

    Until

    Everyone

    Recongnized
    The pattern
    Of slavery's
    Chorus

    The sound

    Of
    Collective voices
    Echoing
    Above
    Plantation fields

    Then
    Harriet
    And her cousins
    Began to wonder

    Where
    Do the songs go
    When they

    Escape

    Our stifled throats

    So
    They set out
    At night

    In search of voices

    Barefooted

    On the underground train

    Not just because
    They wanted
    To help build

    The railroads

    But because

    They were searching

    For the

    Freedom

    Of

    Song

    Hunter

I still feel that 'falling' sensation :)....though I'm firmly seated in my chair.

I will never look at piano keys or sheet music in quite the same way!

    Thank you,

    A
