I was just curious how many of you who are not celebrating thanksgiving day. This is not a judgement call.I want nothing to do with the holiday...although i know that many people see it as a time for family get togethers and giving thanks. But i was just curious how many have the strength to not follow the masses and choose not to celebrate it or have nothing to do with it,or the turkey?

I feel like thanksgiving should happen every day and not just one day out of the year. we should count our blessings daily. a lot of us don't do that. so I don't make as much of a big deal out of this holiday as others may.

It's a matter of respecting ones elders, nothing more nothing less, and regardless of what we say we are all going to see Unc, and Great Aunt, and Nana, and our nephew that just got out the joint and is in town or that niece that just came back from Afghanistan, or the other niece home from college,
but bust the move; when we were kids and went to Aunt's house to eat, or nana's house to eat, ain't no old Black folks talked about no darn pilgrims or the horror that happened to the First Americans, basicly
they co-opted the holiday for Black folks to eat and be thankfull for the progress they had made in the past 175 years.

    'Judgement Call'?
Well, people could make one, but why would they?
...and why would any care that they did?
    *shrug*

It's just an excuse to eat and visit. I mean, what -- like black folks are sitting around the table telling 'First Thanksgiving Stories'?
No 'strength' involved. If an individual doesn't want to participate in Thanksgiving festivities, just stay home and don't cook turkey. *shrug*
    Too easy.
Until my fiance started frying them (pure comedy, btw. The fire said, "WHOOOSH!") or inlaws began making them, we hardly ever ate turkey, anyway. Well...unless someone chopped it up and threw it in a huge cast-iron dutch oven....*laugh*
We barbcue, though. We eat gumbo, dirty rice, ribs, etc...among other traditional southern black cuisine items.

What's wrong with Thanksgiving? What we celebrate today (in America) is just some warped version of something that kinda sorta happened so what's the problem?

??? So the genocide upon the indigenous population didn't happen when these neanderthals stepped foot over here and in the motherland. Its not a kinda sorta nothin....it did happen, and any NEGROE barbecuing and happily singin, praisin and whoopin it up on this day, is pathetic.....
