Cockroaches
Please excuse me I don't mean to come off in an offending manner at all.
Where I live it's too cold to get cockroaches and I had never had to deal with them at all until I spent 6 months in NJ. Please allow me to say this, I noticed a few things when I was there. First, when I stayed with my sister I never saw a roach in her home, she was vigilant about taking out the garbage and all the other sanitary issues that go with living in that climate. It took me a few days to learn to never, ever leave food out anywhere but she scolded me and I got it. She also tapped/caulked the cracks around her pipes and windows - I don't know where she learned to do this, because she was raised in Alberta with me.
Now, when I visited other family members who lived in a multi-family dwelling and along with roaches they had a mold problem. I was staying with them for 2 weeks and couldn't handle the bugs in the kitchen. It simply freaked me out, like a darn horror movie. The garbage bag would rustle and I could hear them when I turned the lights on. So, I bolstered my courage on morning while the fam had gone to work, put on gloves and a mask and went to town. I cleaned eggs, roach carcasses etc... Then I put all the food into the fridge which I cleaned with bleach. I went to the hardware store bought that white stuff (caulking I think) and caulked the cracks best I could.
I didn't see another roach in that kitchen while I was there. I did have to convince my peeps not to leave freshly cooked food on the counter with a towel covering the pot. The family next door would invite me for dinner quite often and I didn't roaches in their kitchen either.
These particular family members of mine have lived in the US from South America for many many years, why did they not know how to prevent roaches and my sister did? When I suggested that they take action against the landlord to have the mold problem attended to, they just shrugged at me and said something...
I don't think absolutely everything is a conspiracy some things come down to asking, investigating and maybe doing some research like it appears the woman in this article has done. Just my opinion - no disrespect intended because I know that Black communities do not get favored by city planners, like I said though some things come down to knowledge which isn't an issue of color.
