A cynical and mistrustful personality apparently leads to greater blood pressure fluctuations for blacks than whites, which could help explain blacks' higher heart disease rates, a Duke University researcher reported Friday at the American Psychosomatic Society meeting here.
Large variations in systolic blood pressure have been linked to the development of heart disease, says psychologist James Lane. So has a suspicious, hostile personality. Overall, blacks tend to score higher on tests for such hostility, he says.

Lane and co-author Redford Williams examined whether the most hostile — those in the upper third on the test — had more blood pressure variability than less hostile people. The team had 152 healthy whites and blacks wear blood pressure cuffs and took more than 50 measurements from them over 24 hours.

The most hostile whites had no more blood pressure variability than less hostile whites or blacks. But the most hostile blacks had about 25% more variability in their systolic blood pressure readings than the others.

"Hostility may be a more important heart disease risk factor for blacks than whites," Lane says

    Blacks still distrust clinical trials

    Tuskegee Syphilis Study's impact debated

The infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study, a government experiment that charted the effects of the untreated disease on mostly poor and uneducated black men, was conducted for 40 years before it was exposed and ended in 1972 amid widespread condemnation.

A number of participants in the study died of the disease, which the men spread to women and to children at birth.

But does it still take a toll on the health of new generations of black people?

Even the experts, apparently, can't agree.

Two separate studies by Johns Hopkins University physicians took opposing sides on whether the Tuskegee experiment remains a significant factor in turning black people away from clinical trials at a greater rate than white people. And both tended to contradict an extensive 2005 National Institutes of Health computer survey that found, in fact, black people are no different than white people in the rate at which they take part in clinical trials when offered the chance.

Despite the different findings, researchers involved in the studies, along with others who work on minority medical issues, said more needs to be done to make sure black people have proper access to clinical trials as well as medical care.

In research reported earlier this year, Johns Hopkins University doctors found that black people were more reluctant than white people to take part in medical studies because they fear being improperly used as guinea pigs. Their lack of participation, the authors said, inhibits efforts to develop treatments for diseases that black people suffer from in disproportionately large numbers.

    I wonder why...

To name but a few reasons one mistrusts (knowing there are many, many more..)

    http://www.counterpunch.org/germwar.html

In 1915, a doctor working with government grants exposed 12 prisoners in Mississippi to pellagra, an incapacitating disease that attacks the central nervous system.

In 1931, Dr. Cornelius Rhoads, then under contract with the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Investigations, initiated his horrific Puerto Rico Cancer Experiments, infecting dozens of unwitting subjects with cancer cells Rhoads went on to head of the US Army Biological Weapons division and to serve on the Atomic Energy Commission, where he oversaw radiation experiments on thousands of US citizens.

In 1942, US Army and Navy doctors infected 400 prisoners in Chicago with malaria in experiments designed to get "a profile of the disease and develop a treatment for it." Most of the inmates were black and none was informed of the risks of the experiment. Nazi doctors on trial at Nuremberg cited the Chicago malaria experiments as part of their defense.
In 1950 the US Navy sprayed large quantities of serratia marcescens, a bacteriological agent, over San Francisco,

1951… the US had dropped anthrax contaminated feathers, mosquitoes and fleas carrying Yellow Fever and propaganda leaflets spiked with cholera over Manchuria and North Korea.

In 1951 the US Army secretly contaminated the Norfolk Naval Supply Center in Virginia with infectious bacteria. One type was chosen because blacks were believed to be more susceptible than whites.

Savannah, Georgia and Avon Park, Florida were the targets of repeated Army bio-weapons experiments in 1956 and 1957. Army CBW researchers released millions of mosquitoes on the two towns in order to test the ability of insects to carry and deliver yellow fever and dengue fever. Hundreds of residents fell ill, suffering from fevers, respiratory distress, stillbirths, encephalitis and typhoid. Army researchers disguised themselves as public health workers in order photograph and test the victims.

In 1965 the US Army and the Dow Chemical Company injected dioxin into 70 prisoners (most of them black) at the Holmesburg State Prison in Pennsylvania. The prisoners developed severe lesions which went untreated for seven months

In 1980, hundreds of Haitian men, who had been locked up in detention camps in Miami and Puerto Rico, developed gynecomasia after receiving "hormone" shots from US doctors. Gynecomasia is a condition causing males to develop full-sized female breasts.

First they told us prostate cancer is more deadly to Black men than white men. Then they told us breast cancer is more deadly to Black women than white women. Now our emotions are more deadly. Just being on the same planet is more deadly to Blacks than whites. This is another way that they have turned things upside down. Left to herself mother nature would correct the genetic

I'm not hostile.:D just stating the facts.
