Apparently repealing Obamacare could violate international law

We’ve already seen that repealing Obamacare is politically perilous. Now there’s a new complication: It may also violate international law.

The United Nations has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing the Affordable Care Act without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States; it turns out that the notion that “health care is a right” is more than just a Democratic talking point ...

White House vows to continue funding Obamacare, averting showdown with Democrats

WASHINGTON — The White House has assured Democrats it will continue to fund a key portion of Obamacare, clearing the way for negotiations on a series of spending bills to avoid a government shutdown, according to two sources familiar with the decision.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had demanded that Congress continue paying for the Affordable Care Act’s subsidies — which lower health care costs for 7 million people — as part of the emerging spending bill. The demand, and the Trump administration’s initial hard line against it this week, raised concerns of an impending government shutdown ...

    That's crazy

Trump says he won't 'give billions' to Democrats in Obamacare funding to avoid a government shutdown

... The spending bill, however, will likely be a source of horse-trading as Democrats and Republicans attempt to fit their own political goals in the package.

One of the biggest desires of Democrats was to include funding for a key part of Obamacare, called cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments, into the new continuing resolution ...

GOP can't find the courage to actually fix their health plan

    • The GOP once again delayed a vote on their health-care bill.
      • Fixing the health law will take a lot longer than one week.
      • Republicans can't seem to explain that the best way to lower health-care costs is to increase competition
... That's because the GOP replacement bill has been a mess from day one. First, Republican cowardice produced a new measure that basically kept the cost-exploding aspects of Obamacare in place, but pulled a good deal of what was already inadequate funding for it too ...

Hospitals are cutting jobs across the nation

Under mounting financial pressures, hospitals across the country are slashing jobs and clinical services. The reasons range from financial to political, and among them are escalating costs and uncertainty about the Affordable Care Act. Casey Ross, who reported on this issue for health news website STAT, joins Hari Sreenivasan to look at the causes of hospital staff reductions ...

GOP suffers surprise defection on Obamacare repeal
The scramble for votes is still very much on

President Donald Trump dialed up his campaign-trail ally Rep. Billy Long on Monday, after the Missouri Republican announced his decision to vote against the Republican plan to replace Obamacare, the goal was straightforward: Persuade Long to change his mind.

It didn't work; though Long hails from a deeply conservative district that overwhelmingly backed Trump over Hillary Clinton in November, and Long supported earlier versions of the legislation, the president's entreaties fell short, GOP insiders said ...
