    HOOD LIVIN

    Hood livin’, hood givin’
    battered bruised smiles
    from miles of mismanaged fortunes.
    Come on Kobe, come on Mike, what up R. Kelly??
    Teachers couldn’t reach and preachers prayers
    failed;
    Jesse in jail behind back child support.
    ****** in court like little boys bored
    with algebra;
    even though they been told their people
    invented the math,
    what up bruh??
    Black pearls are washed upon
    green shores
    of diamond riches, Escalades on switches, and
    sports contracts;
    youngsta’ will break his back
    for a one in a million chance.
    Gator Gator do that dance, Gator Gator
    do that dance.
    Prance on the graves of the slaves
    who died locked up,
    while all you see are corrupted corporate
    bucks;
    piled so high you no longer
    think about the hood.
    But hey, it’s all good.
    It’s all good
    as massa controls your
    coulda, woulda, shoulda,
    when your leg breaks….
    Don’t hate. If you paid attention
    and watched the scheme
    you coulda had more than just an
    Al Davis dream to become
    an Oakland Raider, or NBA playa.
    Had the skills and tried to go wheels,
    but your tail was one book short;
    now you like Jesse and all them other
    baby-daddies, tryin to hustle
    a little child support.
    You a horse, with blinders on your
    head;
    All you seein’ is hood riches, hustler traps,
    million dollar contracts,
    instead—of your life.
    Maybe you tried to write
    that hip-hop classic,
    went to the studio, but then you got smashed.
    Dowin’ the Henny, shot-guns to the face,
    now that classic waits in the studio,
    cuzz you blew the dough.
    Brothas, I ain’t mad at the dreamin’
    but it seems that’s all we do;
    half of us are locked up and the ones that ain’t,
    ain’t followin’ through.
    What up single moms, you been droppin’ planted bombs
    on our life;
    poppin’ holes in our Trojans,
    tryin’ to get yo’ **** tight;
    well, that ain’t right, but it is part of the game.
    One mo’ shot-out to fame:
    what up Halle, what up Robin?
    Hood livin’, givin’ us broken backs
    as massa jacks the future from
    our grasp.
    Chuckle and laugh about LaBron’s
    multi-million-dolla’ contract……
    But ain’t thinkin’ ‘bout how tha’ youngsta’s
    gonna give back.
    All I gotta say is Magic;
    give you this poem,
    And let you think about that.

    Poet...Your Message is one of Urgency and Truth...
    This reminds me of a series a poet here wrote called "Unconscious"
    because truly thats what our people seem to be...particularly
    the ones that have the power to make a difference but instead
    our choices are ones of frivolity...never considering the ramifications
    to our brothers and sisters...

    Loved your poetic style and message...

    This poem is mos def a "Diamond of Consciousness"...

    Hood livin, living life just enough to get by, but in the long run, it limits you. As the two poets before me said, you give us much to think about. Keep writing poet.

    well wasn't this an exhalation in motion. Wow...

    "Black pearls are washed upon
    green shores
    of diamond riches, Escalades on switches, and
    sports contracts;
    youngsta’ will break his back
    for a one in a million chance."

    daaaaaaaang...that was too much. But it sooooo good. Wonderful expression and realism.

    It is always rewarding to read a concious poet...
    I enjoyed this immensely...sadly the poignant truths you remind us of are just that, truths...

    keep writing, you make it better

    Truth, speak it! I say some of the same things myself to my younger cousins and all... Now the question is: what can we do about it?
