Black People : Homosexual and Conscious??

ok, i guess this is an old topic, and i skimmed through a lot of what has been said (i only read about five pages) so i don't know if anyone on this forum is a homosexual or not.

i am a lesbian, as being attracted to someone of the same sex; and i consider myself to be conscious and pro-black
. I feel that what I do in my own bed room and who I have a relationship with is my own business. I know a lot of people may feel that I am less that human, not human, or don't deserve to live because of who I am, but how is that new? There are plenty of white racist who don't want me to live and feel as though I am not human because I am black. But how would they know? They are not black are they. so there you go.

:em2300: I second that.

Malidoma Patrice Somé touches on this subject in his book of water and the spirit and it wasn't well recieved by the ''afrocentric circles'' In his culture (dagara of Burkina Faso in west Africa) homosexuals are considered the 'gatekeepers' between the spirit and the physical.

Thank you for sharing.

This was totally new information to me.

HOMOSEXUALITY IN ANCIENT AFRICA
Dec 10, 2009

Gays: Guardians of the Gates” by Malidoma Somé, M.E.N. Magazine,
1993 [http://www.afrinet/~hallh/afrotalk/afrojun95/0995.html] (Somé is a Dagara tribesman of Burkina Faso; east of Nigeria and north of Ghana):

“...But at least among the Dagara people, gender has very little to do with anatomy. It is purely energetic. The whole notion of “gay” does not exist in the indigenous world. That does not mean that there are not people who feel this way that certain people feel in this culture, that has led to them being referred to as “gay”...The gay person is looked at primarily as a “gatekeeper”...Any person who is at this link between this world and the other world experiences a state of vibrational consciousness which is far higher and far different from the one that a normal person would experience. This is what makes a gay person gay...You decide that you will be a gatekeeper before you are born. So when you arrive here, you begin to vibrate in a way that Elders can detect as meaning that you are connected with a gateway somewhere...

Somé is somewhat controversial, as it is claimed his reference to the wests definition of "gay" was taken out of context in that he was referring more towards 'spiritual attributes' and not so much sexual activity.

I would believe the Euro will stop at nothing to find rampant homosexuality in Africa as that will prove to them that it is a natural human trait coming direct from the motherland - I've read articles about various masks which bore 2 faces, and euro's call them "Janus masks" (after a Roman god) and instead of speaking of the spiritual unity/connectivity between the 2 faces they interpret it as western transgender, or bi-sexual and then say "see! I told you!" hehehe.

anyway.. I digress... ;) good luck on your quest.

Afrocentric Views On Gender And Sexuality

There is a lot of talk about homophobia in Africa.

SO i wanted to share with you the traditional (precolonial )Afrocentic views of Homosexuality.

I think you will discover that we traditionally integrated the gay (two-spirited) members into our communities and they played an integral role in our societies.

It was the imposition of western culture via Chrisitianity and Islam, that has lead to the recent hostility & homophobia in some African communities today.

" During one of the Conflict Hours at the Mendocino Men’s Conference Malidoma spoke eloquently on indigenous people’s views of gay men. He kindly agreed to elaborate on his views as he sat with me among the redwoods of Mendocino. "

Malidoma Patrice Somé, PhD Author, Elder, Diviner is someone who continues the tradition, of teaching the ancient ways of our ancestors, someone who ;s work has been a source of inspiration to me,

You can read more about him Here, http://www.malidoma.com/

From a scientific standpoint....
Homosexuality is nothing new, nor is it exclusively a human condition. 10% of the animal population has same sex predilections. So if 10% of the human population is homosexual it is natural. I can't see that 10% being denied a consciousness because of nature. What I can cee as grounds for losing the link is the people who are outside the 10% and are choosing to be gay. That's different. The people with unnatural urges. Those people forfeit their links, for the links are incompatible with that behavior and karma.

PEACE

Interesting viewpoint!
