    A boy of 14
    His first real job
    Receiving a check
    Complete with taxes taken out
A famous restaurant in the middle of Times Square
    Grand opening
    TV crews, celebrities, VIP only

    There, this boy of 14
    Part of the scene
    His apron freshly starched
Standing in awe of the excitement
Waiting nervously for his assignment for the evening

His only task to keep his tray filled with goodies for the guests
Unimpressed with pro athletes and movie stars
This boy of 14 went about his job
A star on Broadway raised his eyebrow just a bit
He found the celebrities just so-so

Finally some excitement at the front door
A gossip reporter came in closely followed by
    His star
    We’ll call her Miss W
A singer who stole his heart at the age of 12
Every dime he could scrape up
Went toward the purpose of her albums
    Every album

    She was tall and beautiful
    She sang beautiful songs
    He had an incredible crush
    He loved her

A mad dash back to the kitchen
He filled up the tray with the best of what was offered
No one else would share in the treats on this tray
It was for her and her alone
He was meticulous in the arrangement
Every piece of fruit perfectly placed
Every piece of meat and cheese delicately laid out

He approached her like a subject approaches his Queen
    Bearing gifts
    This beautiful tray of food
    Just for her

“Would you like to have anything Miss W?”
Raising the tray for her to get a better look
Any reply would have made his day
Made his 14 year old life meaningful
    She could have smiled
    Said thank you
    Said go to hell
    Get out of my face
Anything from her lips to him
    Would be heaven to him

    Words never came
    Only a cold hard stare
    Shrinking him
Making him feel smaller than he was

He didn’t know what to do
    He stood frozen
    Knees locked
    Finally
After what seemed to be hours
The stare stopped and she turned away

    This boy of 14
Dropped his tray in the nearest trash can
Ran to an empty locker room for employees
    He could not return
How could he face anyone without his heart
Thrown away with the food for his star

He sneaked out a side “exit only” door
    Tears running down his cheeks
    Why?
    Why?
    What did I do?

He vowed to one-day find out
    To confront her
    Demand an explanation
    Give him back his heart

    The day will come
He will force the words from her
Words she could have spoken so many, many years ago
    But no, she won’t remember
    She’ll be polite
Happy someone remembers her as the star she was
Then he’ll feel sorry for her
And find another tray for her
    She’ll always be his star

    BE

    YES!

I love this! And I know the sweet heart of the boy, still beats inside the grown man. Because of their "special-ness", some people we just love, forever...

    Thank you for sharing
    :)
