You could start by explaining the meaning, the purpose, the what for, and the 'why' - because NONE of that is evident to me from looking at the picture.

Are they being suspended in water or air? How? And again - why?
Is this a scientific experiment? For what purpose and to prove what?
And this is being weighed against what non-manipulated and non-controlled group?

    Thank you!

This should be sufficient to get my paper done but keep the ideas coming.

All the equilibrium stuff is about basketballs exception to an aquilung which looks like a bronze vest. Does that mean anything?

White folks will accept anything white folks do as art.
Why is he of particular importance?

Some of it is a bit surreal.

    Hi Knowledge Seed,

You could expound more on the caption in this link:

From the caption at the Tate Gallery, where it currently resides:

“One of the defining features of the 1980s, when this sculpture was made, was the growth of consumerism. Koons, a former stockbroker, made a series of works presenting consumer items in glass cases. Removed from any practical purpose, they become fetish objects to be gazed at and admired. This work was originally made for an exhibition on the themes of achievement, survival and death. Posters in the exhibition presented basketball as a means of achieving fame and fortune for young working-class Americans. According to Koons, the suspended basketballs suggest death, the ultimate state of being.”

and i would focus on the 1985 as well, try to link the popularity of pro- basketball (amongst black male inner city youths) at that time to Koons art?

don't know if that makes any sense.
