Korryn Gaines is the 9th black woman killed by police this year. Here's why that matters

Black men aren’t the only victims of police violence

... “Although black women are routinely killed, raped, and beaten by the police, their experiences are rarely foregrounded in popular understanding of police brutality,” Kimberlé Crenshaw, director of Columbia Law School’s Center for Intersectionality and Social Policy Studies, told the Post. “Yet, inclusion of black women’s experiences in social movements, media narratives, and policy demands around policing and police brutality is critical to effectively combating racialized state violence for black communities and other communities of color” ...

Is that the default to assume that all whites and all white police officers are racist? The police shot my white neighbor to death because he wouldn't drop the kitchen knife and then charged at them. I have to say I looked up every single one of these deaths in 2015 and only a few were questionable. Most shootings were quite justified because the suspects were shooting at or otherwise attempting to harm the police involved. Given what I found in the 2015 cases you can understand why I'm not going to spend another three hours going through the 2014 ones. You've acted like these are just honest people shot by police when most were hardened criminals who were threatening police. It's not a way to build credibility.

Jeremy McDole was shot after refusing to raise his hand when ordered to do so. They found a handgun on him. Incidentally, another case in my area was an 18 year old shot when he was told to show both his hands. He was playing this game where he'd shot one hand, but then hide his other behind his back. He'd show his right hand, but hide his left. He'd show his left, but hide his right. This guy was white, though, so I bet you haven't heard about this.

Christian Taylor was vandalizing cars at a dealership, held up keys saying he'd steal a car, acted aggressively toward a cop, was told to stop doing so, was tazed when he wouldn't, then shot. If there was a mistake here it was having a rookie cop in there alone, but you'd likely have made the same mistake had you been a rookie cop.

Ralkina Jones: This is a case where she should have been in a hospital ward.

Samuel DuBose was ordered to remove his seat belt when an officer opened his car door. Instead DuBose started his car and drove away. It's amazing how many police shootings involve people ignoring police orders and doing dangerous things. Personal responsibility, eh?

Kindra Chapman: While there are legitimate questions here, even Kindra's family agrees it was a suicide.

Joyce Curnell is another case where she should have been in a hospital.

    Raynette Turner ditto.

Sandra Bland was a suicide. It's sad when anyone commits suicide, but that ultimately comes to personal responsibility.

Freddie Gray was in the same vehicle as someone who arrived without harm, so the story that the cop driving gave him a rough ride doesn't hold water. Moreover, someone else riding in the vehicle said he heard gray throwing himself around his compartment. Mosby totally destroyed her career over bringing those charges against the officers without proof, she even said this was born in politics.

Walter Scott: This was totally unacceptable, but I will say that whenever someone decides to run from a cop there is a risk something will go horribly wrong. This is why when a cop tells me to stop I stop. If he tells me to put my hands on my head I put my hands on my head. If he wants to cuff me I let him cuff me.

Bernard Moore was jaywalking in dark clothes at night. That cop wasn't out trying to run people over.

Lavall Hall attacked cops with a broom stick. Assaulting people is a bad policy.

Jonathan Ryan Paul: There was police malfeasance here. Notice how few cases of this there actually is? On we go. Sigh.

Jamie Croom was being arrested for killing two siblings. Strange that you seem to care more about the murderer Croom than about the two siblings (who also happen to be black) killed in cold blood. Croom shot and killed a US Marshal. Croom himself was fatally wounded in the gun fight he started. A couple lessons here. Don't kill in cold blood, don't start gun fights with cops.

Terry Garnett Jr was shot while trying to run over a sheriff's deputy. You need better heroes.

Monique Deckard stabbed someone in a laundromat, and later rushed out of her apartment at officers with knives. This is just how my neighbor was shot by police, although he happened to be white.

Tony Terrell Robinson was physically attacking a Madison police officer and continued to attack the officer despite being ordered to stop. By the way, Whittier California Police Officer Keith Boyer was killed by a violent felon that should never have been released from prison. Do you feel for this man and his family at all? All who knew Officer Boyer (white, Asian, Mexican and black) said he was a great guy.

Tyrone Ryerson Lawrence: This model citizen was shot by Milwaukee, Wisconsin police because Lawrence was attacking his wife with a knife.

Naeschylus Vinzant: Another model citizen. He was shot by police after smashing his wife's car window, punching her in the face, taking her car keys, stealing her purse and kidnapping her son. She had scratches, a bite mark and various abrasions. He later charged at a cop and was shot.

Andrew Anthony Williams was yet another one shot while trying to run people over.

Dewayne Deshawn Ward Jr. is yet another that charged at police with a knife.

Ledarius Williams (a convicted felon for assaulting two police officers in the past) ran from cops instead of talking to them. Always a bad thing to do. He hid in a bush, was found, wrestled with cops, reached for the 45 semi-automatic pistol in his waist band when he was shot.

Yvette Henderson pointed a gun at a Home Depot employee in Oakland, California while stealing items from the store. She then used the same gun to hijack a car in the parking lot. When attempting this car jacking is when she pointed the gun at two police officers who shot her in self defense.

Edward Donnell Bright, Sr. was ordered to drop a knife by Maryland police. He refused. He was tazed. He still wouldn't drop the knife. He was then shot. If people would simply drop weapons when told to do so they'd live.

Thomas Allen Jr. took off with a cop and a 5 year old girl in the car, driving recklessly and endangering the lives of those in the car as well as motorists in other cars. Allen started fighting with the cop and was shot. If he'd just stayed put instead of racing around city streets. Another case in St. Louis which is a city that has a high rate of violence toward police and citizens in general.

Charley Leundeu Keunang is someone who illegally moved into the USA with a stolen passport and robbed a bank. He pistol whipped the teller. Neither France (where the stolen passport was from) nor Cameroon (his actual homeland) would take him. He quit going to his weekly meetings with his parole officer so the US Marshals service had an arrest warrant issued. Officers went to his tent on Skid Row in Los Angeles where he tried to grab an officer's weapon. He was shot when he attempted this.

Fednal Rhinvil was shot dead by a sheriff's deputy in Maryland after Rhinvil pinned the sheriff's deputy to the ground and drew a handgun. Surely you can't fault anyone, cop or not, for defending themselves.

Shaquille C. Barrow had robbed a person at gun point who then called the Joliet, Illinois police. Barrow pulled a 357 Magnum on the responding officer who shot Barrow. Barrow was an admitted gang member with 9 arrests and 3 convictions. Two of these arrests were on weapons offenses.

Kendre Omari Alston threatened to shoot Jacksonville Florida Police Sergeant John Nobles and then tried to ram his police car. That isn't the sort of activity I engage in when trying to avoid being shot.

Brandon Jones: This saint was killed while leaving a store he'd broken into at 2:15 in the morning.

Darrell Gatewood is a case where they police did try to use restraint by sticking to pepper spray and a taser. He happened to die despite this.

Cornelius J. Parker was the perpetrator of a triple shooting, two of these people died which makes it a double homicide. He then led the police on a high speed chase. After crashing in the snow he emerged from the car with a gun where he was shot by police.

Ian Sherrod had shot three people and then pointed a gun at police.

Jermonte Fletcher was an Ohio gang leader who was wanted for drug dealing and illegal weapons possession. He vowed never to be taken alive and opened fire on police. I guess he got his wish.

Darin Hutchins: Someone flagged down a Baltimore police officer reporting someone was threatening to stab people at a toddler's birthday party. The officer order him to put down the knife, he wouldn't, he was shot once in the chest by the officer.

Glenn C. Lewis is another criminal who attempted to run officers over with his car. Police said all he had to do was comply when told to stop. This happened in Oklahoma City.

Calvin A Reid: This man had a history of drug related arrests. He was found, at 1:30 in the morning, behind the walls of a gated community in which he did not live. An elderly couple called 911 when Reid refused medical attention. He then tried to run from cops when he was tased. He was then sent to the hospital where he died.

Tiano Meton led border patrol officers on a high speed chase after failing to stop at a border checkpoint in Texas. He was seen to have a gun and was shot. It only became known afterwards that it was a realistic looking pellet gun.

Demaris Turner is another that was shot as he was ramming a police vehicle.

Isaac Holmes led police on a high speed chase, then refused to drop a loaded gun. Another case in St. Louis, Missouri which literally has third world levels of violence. You'd be on edge if you had to work as a cop there as well

A'Donte Washington made his parents proud by burgling a house, where responding officers were met by gun fire. Washington was exiting the yard while brandishing a hand gun where he was shot by an officer.

Terry Price returned to a casino after being banned where he was tased by police. The police are darned if they do and darned if they don't. This was just a freak incident.

Stanley Lamar Grant: This man fired at police after they showed up at his house to execute a search warrant. Can't police officers search houses after a judge issues a search warrant?

Askari Roberts is yet another case where he struggled with officers and got tased. He was sent right to the hospital.

Dewayne Carr is someone who was found at a Scottsdale, Arizona supermarket due to his use of a fraudulent credit card as part of a fraud ring. He tried to ram his way out by hitting police vehicles and was shot by officers. This man had a criminal history in both Arizona and Illinois that included armed robbery, aggravated assault, evading arrest and drug charges. Three accomplices, all Chicago residents, were arrested for several crimes including identity theft and fraud.

Terrance Moxley is someone who was arrested after banging on someone's door. He became combative with police, struggling with them, trying to bite one of them and refusing to get in the police car. They finally cuffed him when he BROKE THE CUFFS. Very few people are strong enough to break handcuffs unless high on certain drugs. He then went into "medical distress" and died at the hospital.

Theodore Johnson's girlfriend showed up at the Cleveland Police 4th District Station to report than Johnson was threatening her and the landlord with a gun. Eager to disprove this allegation, Theodore Johnson shows up in the hall and shoots an officer in the chest and then is shot by officers. The officer hit in the chest, fortunately, had a bullet proof vest on.

Cedric Lamont Bishop had the police called on him for firing his gun into homes, seemingly at random. He also shot at the responding sheriff's deputy who returned fire and killed him. Obviously self defense. Bishop is another one who had a lengthy criminal record.

Anthony Hill: This one is questionable, but an eyewitness did report that this man was running rapidly toward the police officer.

Terence D. Walker: This man threatened his girlfriend, said he had a bullet with her name on it, and then ran from police when they found he had a gun. This was a dangerous person.

Janisha Fonville arose off the couch with a knife in her hand when an officer was right there.

San Jose got a call about a knife wielding person in an apartment. The police arrive to find Phillip Watkins wielding a knife which he would not drop. He charged at the officers with the knife and was shot.

Anthony Bess tried to run over police officers after he fled when shoplifting at a supermarket in Memphis, Tennessee. They showed up at his house after a judge issued an arrest warrant. A relative let them into the house where they found Anthony Bess standing with his hands behind his back. The officers asked that he show his hands. He did, but by firing weapon at them. They returned fire, naturally enough. I think you would do the same if someone were shooting at you.

Desmond Luster Sr.: I really feel for this man. As someone who has been the victim of burglars before I can understand the frustration. Still, when the police man who was working security at the Flying J truck stop as a second job hears gun shots and sees a pick up rushing at him he would have no way of knowing any of this. All he knows is that he sees a truck coming at a teenager and the officer after he had heard gun shots. Mr. Luster should've exercised some restraint. It's normally not permissible to shoot people that are running from you, at least in most states.

James Howard Allen: Police went to his house for a welfare check. He confronts them with a gun. The police order him to put the gun down. He refuses. He gets shot. All he had to do was put the gun down.

Natasha McKenna was arrested for assaulting a police officer, so she was to be restrained while in custody. She resisted this and was tasered.

Herbert Hill was sent to prison for 17 years for attempted murder. He was, incredibly, paroled after 1 year. He broke the law by failing to register as a violent offender upon his release which was a condition of his parole. This is why the police showed up at his house. They found him in his car when he immediately opened fire on police who, naturally, returned fire. Oklahoma City Police Sergeant John Townsend was hit twice by Hill.

Markell Atkins was being arrested for first degree murder of a 1 year old. He had a knife which he was ordered to put down. He refused. He was shot.

Kavonda Earl Payton robbed a convenience store, ran in his car, was stopped by police where he ignored orders to drop the handgun. He was then shot.

Rodney Walker was observed to be in an altercation with his girlfriend by police officer Andrew Bryiant. Walker pulled a gun and Bryiant was forced to shoot Walker in order to protect himself and the girlfriend.

A judge issued a felony warrant for Donte Sowell. When Sowell saw police arrive at the entrance to his apartment complex he opened fire, and fire was returned by a police officer and a security guard at the apartment complex.

Mario A Jordan was standing in the middle of the street with a rifle shooting at police. Police shot back and killed him.

Artago Damon Howard was found to be in a pharmacy after the burglar alarm was triggered. He started struggling with the officer when the gun discharged. The officer chased him outside where he found that Howard had been shot and called an ambulance.

Andre Larone Murphy Sr. is another who died was tased after scuffling with police.

Marcus Ryan Golden is yet another who tried to run over police officers.

Brian Picket had the police called on him by his mom and Brian threatened her life. He charged deputies who then tased him.

Abdul-Rasheed tried to buy a plane ticket with a fake ID. He attempted to stab officers which is why he was shot.

Ronald Sneed: Here's a man who had been in trouble with the law a number of times and police received a domestic violence call. This are the most dangerous types of calls police answer. They entered the apartment to find a gun pointed at them so they opened fire.

Leslie Sapp III: This man pointed a realistic looking pellet gun at cops.

Ajibade: Death in jail by repeated blows to the head. This was was definitely wrong, but the cops involved were fired by the sheriff.
