    When hearts break,
    they all sound the same
Their beats speak in bilingual tongues
But disappointment talks in the same language
Evil intentions have the same complexion
Which is hard to identity sometimes
    But you learn by experience
Especially when you’re lynched by your fellow man
Who instead of from his mouth…
Allowed his bullet to call you brother
I see mothers cry universal tears
When death segregated them from their children
Time mixes us in melting pots of regret
Where we wish for our past to stop stirring
    Because Satan knows that…
We are more attractive in sadness
    See, heartache has no prejudice
    Real love seems unfamiliar but
The worst kind of it never acts like a stranger
    Why is that?
That its broken promises hurt like racial slurs
    While the heart and mind
    Always fight for independence
    It arrives in multiple shades
So its wounds can become international
And since we all make sex cultural,
You discover its consequences like archaeologists
Because HIV is just as friendly
With whoever is willing to be introduced
    Our backgrounds find common ground,
Whenever we seek that escape from this feeling in our chests
    We unite with global addictions
Where prostitution has stolen the potential from rainbows
Where drugs are color blind, seeing us all as equals and
While many look for genies at the bottom of alcohol bottles
So we can make wishes as we drink away the pain
I once saw my reflection in a person of a different race
But our tears tasted like the same ocean
Our skin molded by the same sand
    Created from God’s hands and
We shared battles that were similar
Because war doesn’t care who gets killed
Since the blood that spills smells like the same sacrifice
    Heartache has no prejudice
I hear the same pain in slow rock songs,
    Along with sad R&B
I feel it in the different brands of poetry
    Different colored eyes
    Harboring related memories and
    Different tones of voices
Exhaling stories so the world can listen
    Even though crying hurts sometimes,
    We can smile much stronger
And no matter how it looks or feels
    In time, everyone’s skin
    Was made to heal
