he brings the pain
that sweet agony whenever
his tall, dark shadow looms
in the doorway and his
footsteps fade as he leaves this place

to take on another day

he brings the pain
when he doesn’t know I’m watching
him make his way in this
evil world that despises, disrespects,
denies his value

hands clinched, he smiles, anyway

he brings the pain
when, on his knees
in praise, thanks, and supplication
to Jehovah Ji’reh, Supreme Provider

I incline my ears to hear him pray

he brings the pain
when I enfold him inside my
embrace and he bends low
to bless my lips with tenderness
reserved for me
our silhouettes make music
all our own ~

composing as we sway

he brings the pain
whenever I see into clear
brown irises, his mind’s vision of
an equitable society, his
hope for a people truly free,
his dream to be the man
he was born to be
I know, of a surety

My journey, his road: our way

Ms. Ma'am...

...you capture the essence
of being sensitive to the
plight of her man...

if only people would be
sensitive to the whoas that
this world places on us...

for it is when we get home
that we look forward to the
serine release...
the embrace of a caring mate
...ahhh, sis...this is wonderful!

...but you know this!
