Judged and condemned, abhorred, and cursed
An abominable anathema
Because, popular regard and thought, she dared to contest
And so, walked the streets with her punishment emblazoned upon her chest
No, not in Scarlet
But in a tint no less vibrant, a vivid hue shading in her shameful letter
As she passed,
Some peeked from behind blinds; others jostled in, all to see her better
Daily, denounced and debased,
Verbally and physically, abused and ridiculed as they scorned and sneered
And when some thrown missile of contempt hit the mark….they even cheered
For her public disdain
For her very existence was the bane
Of all their lives
Challenging things they thought they knew
Twisting and altering each stubbornly set view
Why, they LIVED by their delusions!
So, how dare she draw opposing conclusions
Revealing and shattering their comfortable illusions?!
It took them YEARS to cultivate what she so sharply annoyed
NO!…She MUST be beat down, undermined, and destroyed!

And so, she still walks on through the same vicious crowds
With no rest and no protective covering which shields or shrouds
Her essence

They’ve hated her all their lives
Because she embodies the 20th letter upon her breast
And just as any other prejudice,
What people can’t or won’t accept.....they detest

Some faces are new to her, perhaps, still yet impressionable children
But some of the angry faces, she’s known since their youth
Never changing…All their lives, they’ve bitterly ostracized TRUTH.
