Happy Father's Day to You Mom
    By Monad.poetress

So many times I wished I had someone to call dad
Never even realizing the dad I already had
No he wasn't a man with big strong hands
No she was my mom with skin the color of radiant sands
I wanted someone to ride me on their back
But one day I realized that my mom did that

Every night when I awoke to go pee
She lifted me on her back and my mom would tote me
All the times I needed a dad
She didn't disgrace him she didn't talk bad
She never said she hated him or even told me why
She never said he didn't love me or why they said goodbye

I know she can never really be a dad
But for me my mom is all the dad I had
And all the things she couldn't afford she made it up with love
Maybe things were meant this way by the almighty up above

    Happy Father's Day Mom

Time I read the title...I knew I had to check it out.
Monad...this is profoundly beautiful. I have never looked at it from this angle before. This poem did exactly what poetry should do...make you think about the way things are in actuality. Thank God for the real fathers, but we should also honor the "other" fathers too...the mothers. On Mother's Day, we should honor the mothers and the men, who have had to be both the father AND the mother. These indeed are very special people.

    Thank You

    ~j

This was a tribute well worth putting into words, and I love the way you did it, well done, poet.
