yo' peeps...i'm anutha of dem AFRONET throwback bruthaz that watched Destee.Com materialize out of the dreams and fantasies of our Queen Mother's deep seated imaginings...into ALL this. all those years have seen so many of us come and go and leave behind some amazing lines...and memories...and friendships that tell the story of this wonderful playground community. some time ago, i dropped the following piece. thought this would be a great time to revive it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DESTEE.COM:

The Playground
(Destee’s Fame)

The avenues and boulevards
To virtual back alley courtyards
And intersecting cyber streets

~ This global WEB from which we speak

Destee.com is a farm (land)
For homegrown calm and astute Ci-Ti-ZeNs
Of the creative flow persuasion
(Of every nation)

~ UPlifting peace and downPLAYING violence ~

I WITNESSED…as its humble beginnings
Flowed into a circular
Never-ending society of
“You and Me”
Friends

Born out of the ashes of her AFRONET dayz
Destee.com has CULTIVATED the ways of the flow
…The place we go to let our musings thrive
Where fantasies and dreams come alive
Through discussions, and
Chat rooms, and
Poetic schools, and
Short story class rooms, and
Anyway you wanna be
That’s alright with me, too

We are a dotCOM community
Of love, (support), and great unity

A venue
Where madd skillz are displayed
As flows are arrayed in
Dazzling shades of
Sizzling word play

A wordsmith farm
For poets—like me
We maintain the river’s flow
Gracefully

A playground
That resounds with the
Chitter-chatter, and
Booming laughter of
Poetic throw-downs
From the meek and flamboyant
The shy and outspoken
That serious sister
And that joking brother

A playa-playa kinda lover
(See what I’m saying)

Come on ova and play wit me

Like the hoopsters
And Big Ballaz
The playground has always been
The spot (to come to)
To get down
To display your talents
To showcase your skillz
To live to the fullest of your gifts
As your **** develops into
~ ALL IT CAN BE

I’ve seen poets like
Amun Ra
And his other-worldly musings
Showing us how he be living

I see His $$RICHNE$$ flying the air waves
Bishop’s in the lighthouse
And Watcher—RIP—rounding out
The brothers xtreme
With Blakverb making the river scream
Its consciousness

I see…
The Queens and Kings
Of the river’s flow
Wordsmiths
Poetic junkies
And addicts of the soul

Swing low, my chariot…go
You know…you know
Mutual admiration
All wrapped up in
TRUE

I give to you
No ghetto ghost riders
Or, poetic phrase biters
We’re non-fighters
In this poetic crew

(Just wanna make mental loving with you)

I see poets like

PLATINUMILLITY1 of the valley
Where dnommo planted thee
Let me Reason out the possibilities
Before Rhymebad captures me

Maple Xtract’d from her classes
All she wanted but did not know
Gave MsDlite her favorite syrup
Told her to eat and get out the door

My little Huntress…Blackbelle
She hails from Jamaica
By Toronto, Canada’s way
Left the vagina chronicles
For me to fondle
But NO…they don’t flow that way

Ga_Sunshyne
Touched a gold mine
When you let her N2URSouL
Left you standing…shivering
In that wet, Georgia cold

I fell victim to the notion of
Watzinaname
So I gave it no fame
‘til I met a poetess named
4everluv

And everything I had ever thought of
About a name
Went by the way…as they say

Then came Hodee
And Harry Hyman
Asimplepoet I aspired to be
But she wasn’t having me
So, I tried to become the 1poetsought
But, instead, became lost

Da Street So’ja found me
While patrolling the streets
Of the concrete jungle
I had been humbled
By the experience of a
Desert Storm
Who did me no harm
As Alyce tried to see
What Astrologer4U had told me
But triniti warned me
To stay away
So, I held sway
To the many who came before me

Now…I can’t lie
Sweet Apple Pie got scandalous
Told all the ballaz
“You can’t handle this”
If she got down like that

Like what???

Keita Kenyatta and Queentswana (RIP)
Opened a corner spot next to the playground
Where poets could chill when they came around
YOU KNOW HOW THEY GET DOWN

Sheryka took Afri-dancr to a party
With Mr. Africa at B.E.’s house
Where Poetic Quest and MsLuciousB
Were going the spoken word route
‘til zorbi got called out
But seanthepoet had her back
No doubt

I met an epiphany
And it came to be (that)
The skies opened wide
As her light shone brightly (on me)

Mz Cocobutterskyn did colabs
With a Balla…on the smoove tip
Took a sip of the erotica
Made her holla her MADD LUV
For a brutha’s skillz

~ But that’s how we live

There was an OG playa—MADDRAPPER
Wearing GQ styles
He’d stop in and play
Every once in a while
He and DimePlaya2G
Were throwing the street thing up
Profusely
Katana came along to save them
‘til they tried their mac-daddy lines on her
And she played them
But that’s the kinda things happening
On the playground
Where poets and poetesses come
To get down

And then there be ME
Baller
I’d holla across raging rivers
Asking the giver of all things
If HE would allow me
To be the me
I always wanted to be
…allowing my soul to fly free
And my pen to bring to life
The fantasies within me

~ O, Father, I beseech thee

But at the head of the class
…the top of the hill
Spitting fire with dope rhymes
Str8 popping madd skills
Lives the playground Queen
Doing unworldly things
As she paves the way
For others…unseen

Destee
My sista
I remember your swag
And the sway of dem afro-puffs
Once you lost your do-rag
The lines you would drop
Yeah…I remember them, too
Just wanna say thanks
And much PROPERS to you
