As life begins to unfold around me
The vail has been lifted from my eyes
This once sensitive and naïve girl
Has found that life is a little harsher
Than mama and daddy have defined
No longer can I hide behind a half smile
    And a kind face
This life demands a little more each day
As truth is constantly slapping me in the face
I have been slapped for the very last time
It is time to pull myself together
And stop acting like a bastard child
I know who my daddy is
And it is time to step up and step out
It is time to raise the bar
It is time to finish what I have started to accomplish
As I draw strength from every tear that rolls down my face
And with each day I realize I am given a new opportunity to do things a different way
There is a transformation that is taking place
A great woman is being created
This transformation feels like it took place over night
But as I fall more in love with my God each day
I can now see how I have gotten from point A to point B
And the transformation that is taking place will put me ahead of those in the same race
I now more than ever see the need for change, not for anyone but me
I must now cater to my own needs
As I nuture this woman and get her from point B to point C
I have taken time to stop and take a nice long look at me
I feel as though I have been held back from all that there is out there for me to do and see
There is always someone standing in way
    Hindering my growth
    Not allowing me achieve
As I stand in the mirror and wipe the tears from my eyes
I saw something I didn’t expect to see
The only person standing in my way is me
