I fell into a deep sleep
and drifted off into the land of dreams
or should I say the land of nightmares
it was scarier than it seemed
when it started, it was morning
a day that began quite normally
I wake up, shower, and dress
    I get to work
    things are orderly
I go on about my day
    I read the news
    stay occupied
    but as the day ends
    and it's time to go
    I feel an emptiness inside
    I fall into a trance
devoid of feeling; passion or fear
like my shadow in the sun
    no matter where I went
    it appeared
I tried my best to escape it
but it wouldn't let me be
    I tried every distraction
but even stronger it would seem
I thought I got the best of it
    Evaded it cleverly
    I had mastered my escape
and found my way to the open sea
    my soul found inspiration
    in a calm summer breeze
but as soon as I closed my eyes
    and found peace and relief
    the whole day would repeat
    back into my daze
    a day of predictability
    a futile, undying effort
    to again find tranquility
    nothing had any meaning
I had seen it all before
there was nothing new under the sun
    only familiar ground to explore
I wanted it to be over
I wanted the nightmare to end
    but that didn't stop it
    the day would repeat
    again and again
    despite my frustration
    eventually I just gave in
it was in that very moment
    I looked in the mirror
    at my own open eyes
    I never fell asleep
    groundhog day
    is my life

So easy it is to become entrenched in this rat race, just running on automatic pilot, certainly I can relate. Loved the fluidity of your expression poetess. Welcome back!!! :)
