Ah, the great expectations of life
things you fully expect to take place
Some dreams are realized and bring great joy
others become nightmares that one must face
Tis a fact that I'd rather ignore
just because I have the presence of mind
to at least try to be genuine and understanding
doesn't mean others will respond in kind
Not saying of course that I don't stumble in
my efforts, there are times that I try and fail
But when I err, I attempt to make amends and
admit it, not deny all and show my tail
    Perhaps my expectations are wrong
Just because I like a tune doesn't mean
you have to sing that song
Although I may be driven to confess
You may not have the same feelings to express
Could be my concept of just and fair
is one that you don't honestly share
And in that case what I know and show,
the way that I give and live...
Those actions have to be their own reward
those deeds have to thrive on their on accord,
not wait for others to applaud and see
that I am deserving, cause that may never be.
Others will do them, and I'll just have to do, me
    Just some realizations and lamentations
as I ponder a few of my great expectations

we are our own worse enemy, the expectations we have in life of ourselves.. are the downfall of our own sanity.. are the expeactations of challenges not met.

Yes, we can be our own worst enemy if we raise the bar too high, as we sometimes do. Sometimes we don't raise the bar high enough, because we're afraid we might fail. Important to find that middle ground. Thank you for your response Poeticmanifesta.
