student, but not for long
The anticipation of graduation,
Grand Celebration
Passing out numerous invitations,
To anyone that would come.
Before time I knew that my number,
Would be one, or maybe two,
If their work schedule was working with me.
As the time crept up,
The disdain leaped up,
The anticipation dwindled…
As I saw the increased effort of my college,
To swindle us into paying much more than we could afford.
Wow….precious memories.
Hidden fees here, left out details there,
Resulting in my negative reaction
Which eventually overpowered the joy,
The satisfaction that I had for achieving a degree.
Oh but the satisfaction is still there.
I’m more relieved that my time of attendance,
Had expired.
It left me tired,
But I know I had to shake that off,
If I was to be ready for the real world.
I watch as they walk,
Some my peers,
Down the aisle,
Lined with adoring smiles,
Family members from near some from far.
Dressed in the college’s colors,
Black and gold,
Colors signifying strength,
And us emulating them as we walk bold.
I watch the event unfold,
From the sidelines,
Some parts I hear,
Through the grapevines.
Just because I wasn’t there,
I don’t feel as if it takes anything away from me.
Wow….some precious memories.
