Elizabeth Adams, granddaughter of John Fenwick, Lord Proprietor of New Jersey, married a Negro servant and was cut off in his will. Their offspring were the founders of a settlement known as Gouldtown. The members of this community intermarried with the white settlers and Gouldtown remains today a community of mulattoes, many of whom have acquired considerable property and have gained a degree of prominence. Steward W & T. G. Gouldtown p. 51, 1913. From The Book Sex & Race Vol 2
