dedicated to my mother's spirit and my family living...i am coming...home~
    -------------------------
    [IMG]
    hesitating to do it...
    head down the highway
    or ride the sky-way...homeward
to that place that i call home...
even though, i am so far away...

i am a product of the southern
    importation of Africans...merged with blood
of people called the first nation (Indians)
roots that form a tree with branches
    across the Mississippi...stretching
out west...to a dusty place with mountain ranges
the great migration of my people
i am...not from the south...but of the south

    Colorado...a place of hope
Denver...home to my people and their
    dreams...
    they bought homes and cars
had jobs to afford them the ability
to bring big mama's sister to this
    haven-place...
    they migrated family and friends
    south to west...their escape

    my family...transplanted Denverites...
    some with native birth rights...
    losing southern hospitality
    assimilating with the wrong folks
    trying to maintain southern-face
    and grace...
    southern erase...

    home...that Denver-place
    the place of family gatherings
    at big sam's place...
where she cooked all the southern
    fixings...reminding us of our "used-to-be-place"
    and southern grace...

    home...an empty place
    momma gone...with her others
    big sam...and her son...
    her brother and grandpa's sister...
    a dying place...
    where my southern family
lay in graves...on a hill north
    of Denver...fate in our migrated
    place...

    my family's place...
    where i learned to camp
    hike and ski...
    south to west...
    home...after 3 years away...
i will return to our place...

Going home keeps us in tune with who we are..

Although I was born in Chitown
    the motherland for my family
    is Mississippi

    Itta bena
    Greenville
    Greenwood
    me fam hails from here...
    some migrated to Georgia
    some to Minnesota
    some to california
    St Louis
    Detroit
    Florida
    and of course Chitown
    but there comes a time
when we all return to our mecca
    to reflect
    who we are
    and where we are going....

enjoy your trip...and hopefully I'll have that portion of the project completed when you return.

Now if you just need a brotha to meet up with ya...just give me a call;)

    NICE...

    reminiscing on LIFE CHANGES
    how circumstances
    rearranges
    what's important
    in this day and ages
    who have come
    those who've gone
    wondering aloud
    WHAT WENT WRONG
    when visiting time comes
you look back on the dayz
    of SUNDAY GET TOGETHERS
    down BIG MOMMA'S WAY
    and childhood dreams
    of how life should be
from the relationship that didn't last
to the one between you and me.

    One.
