    the weight is heavy
maybe I could go to the east
and swim backwards / do the backstroke
back to Africa to find my place
to die...let it rain on me
so I can permeate the rich soils
    and rediscover my roots

    (...........that would be more blessed
    than living here)

    I buried another smile today
a mother will bury her child saturday

I wonder if i'll live another day
    without burying another smile
    another memory of a child
    that I once made laugh
    that once taught me something
about life and the value of it

    (children have that mystical power
that reminds us that life is wonderful

    the irony kills me)

I wonder if the "community" will
"protests" again and blame the police
and picket city hall and vandalize a brief spot
on the news with rhetoric and hold vigils and
    scream and shout and....and...and...and...
forget about her two months from
    now and her
    spirit and smile that
    will be buried saturday and
    ..and...and...and rearrange her
    eulogies into another
    cause for their agendas and..and...and
stay silent when the moon rises and
the dandelions in our garden choke the flowers

the weight is heavy I just want to
    backstroke/swim back
    wards/back to mother africa

    and find the answers
so her life wil not have been
    in vain...

    sorrow...

    in it's most beautiful form...

faith hope and love 1 corinthians...a scripture that's been jumping at me since last Friday when my friend buried her grandma, Saturday when an ex-lover from Senegal married a wh* woman to Monday when searching for a greeting card for a friend picked up (by accident?) a card that read, " When all else fails, when you think you have nothing else left there's still Faith, Hope and Love.

Her life definitely was not in vain, brother.
She was sent here and retrieved for a reason.
Keep her presence in your memories.
    She was a blessing.
    Keep a positive mindset.
