    And when the mist cleared,
they discovered that not a single enemy had been slain..
and they had only been fighting each other..
meaning.. the blood that covered their swords and consciences..
was the blood of their own brothers.

Ashamed, and conspiring to hide their sins from God,
they entered the welcoming darkness of the mighty cave.
then and there, they swore, each one to another,
to keep the secret of their crimes for all time.

Those that refused the oath were buried alive..
while the rest would slowly ingest the bloody lie..
giving deceit a living/breathing host through which to ply.

Some say that that was the day they abandoned their God.
While other say, it was the day their God abandoned them.
Either way, now.. they were Godless men.

Simply wonderful, James. This piece is so vivid and animated. The subjects walked from the page. It reads like a true account of historical happenings.

Thanks Kiwanda, Rich.. this one came as a poetic response to some socio-political mumbo jumbo I was reading.. rather than respond in-mode.. and commence to argue for 3 or 4 pages to no avail.. I found myself shifting modes and making art of it. Kinda like making origami out of hate mail.. or reorganizing the words of 'dear john' letter into a Haiku.. anyway.. the fact that I have so much to say about it.. indicates--to me-- that it's not in it's final form.. this just may be the opening of something larger than a poem..
    thanks again..

and good to see you back Mr. Rich.

    -Peace

She was late to find out
    She already loved him
She heard there was a horrible fight
    From which many were lost
    And she thought
This is why he is so cold
    He lost a loved one
His sword stood in the corner
Never to be picked up again
She pitied him and tried to soothe him
    She never considered
He was and is in the company
    Of Godless men

So her love was forever wasted
    Never to be returned
    She kept her promise
    To stand by him
    Steadfast and he
    Treated her with blasts
    From an ice cold heart
It was not a love one he lost
    In that terrible fight
    But his heart
As he vowed to keep the secret
    And never let it out
    And never let love in
    The Godless men...
