In the Spirit of Sankofa,
... What's the take away after listening?
For me, the major take away is that the everyday Ghanaian has little knowledge of what occurred after the slave ships left, and are amazed to hear the details. Also, Ghana has yet to develop a Ghanaian history, and in exchange are grounded in colonial textbooks for current understanding and education. At the end of the day, more traveling between Ghana and America is encouraged for African Americans, so as to help eliminate both the poverty existing in Ghana and to close the educational gap; which would spell unity rather than the present disconnect.
Peace In,
