I brought this out again...mainly because i'm tired of watching our children die
Dantrell this is for you...R.I.P. brother....

The block… though pedestrian traffic is
    constant… remains empty
    While across the street-
    The playground seems Bleak
minus the pitter-Pattering of tiny feet
Playing and tagging and running and
    jumping until…Dantrell…
Youngest yet of those whom fell
Yesterday his laughter made the world go’ round
    Today…The Ghetto….is a Ghost-Town……

    Surrounded by a Chain-linked Fence
    Games are played, fluids replenished
Cooler full of aid, turntables spun by
d-jays in the corner under a tent
Here.... gladiators and local legends battle
    Epic contests of athletic violence
    Cross town rivals
    When rep meets survival…
    Eerie is the silence….
No longer do the rims rattle.

Brought here to live and die in bundles
    Becoming lifeless faces in
    crowded Project places……
    From roaming with lions…to
    becoming extinct in concrete jungles.
Despite the frequency resulting in numb ears-
Nothing prepares for the screams I
    hear
    echoing through these sound-proofed halls
“No, Not my baby” as another mother calls…
An ear piercing declaration of despair
96' degrees in the shade still-
    There’s a chill in this morning’s air...

    So...
    No more double-dutch
    Hoops or "freeze tag"
    Or.... young girls
    being chased by young
    lads…No…
    Red light-green light
    Or... mother may I
    have some change
    for that snow-cone I
    want to buy…No
    teams for stick ball
    or hide and seek
    No...two hand touch
    nerf football
    game of the week
    with…neighborhood onlookers
    Full of rambunctious cheer….
Just maybe- children are playing-Somewhere out there
    Sadly enough its- not Here
    As grown-ups scurry about...
    Empty is the playground
    The precious future is
    No where to be found……
    Today…..The Ghetto…is a Ghost- Town

This is why you're hot!! Man, I could feel the rhythm, just by how you laid out the words. This is a great performance piece! This should definitely go mainstream.

Just a shell of what it used to be. Not just food for thought, this was a feast.
