I have been away for a while, tending to health, and unfortunate family sitcheeations.

...we must protect the youth of our culture... Those we can't protect ourselves....Pray for unselfishly.

    GHOST TOWN
    The block… though
    pedestrian traffic is
    constant…still empty
    across the street…
    the playground
    seems bleak minus
    the pitter-pattering of
    tiny feet……playing
    and
    tagging and
    running
    until…
    Dantrell….Youngest yet of
    those whom fell
    Yesterday….The
    Senseless aggression
    The..unfortunate
    misdirection
    a stray...
    tiny
    chest
    life laid to rest…

    Today…The Ghetto….is a Ghost-Town……

    Surrounded by a
    chain-linked Fence
    cooler full of aid
    In the corner
    under a tent
    Here.... gladiators
    and
    local legends battle
    but ….
    so do rivals where
    rep meets survival…
    Eerie is the silence….
    no longer
    do
    the
    rims
    rattle……….

    Today…The Ghetto is a Ghost-Town………

    Storms of
    injustice synonymous
    With “JUST-US”
    As…Genocide
    Homicide
    and other elements of
    America’s inclement weather
    keep us
    Bound together with
    the chains
    of oppression’s pain
    By definition
    And definitely not individual decision
    We… live and die
    in bundles
    Lifeless faces in
    crowded
    Project places……
    once at home with lions…
    soon to
    be
    extinct
    in
    Concrete
    Jungles……….

    Despite the conditioning of
    closed eyes and
    numb ears…..Nothing prepares
    for the screams
    I hear
    echoing
    through
    these halls
    “No, Not my baby”
    as another mother calls….
    Declaring her despair…..
    96' degrees in the shade
    still.....
There’s a chill in this mornings air.....

    No laughter, No double-dutch
    Hoops or "freeze tag"
    Or.... young girls
    Being chased by young
    Lads.No
    Red light-green light
    Or... mother may I
    have some change
    for that snow-cone I
    want to buy.No
    stick ball, or teams
    for hide and seek
    No two hand touch
    nerf football
    game of the week
    with…neighborhood onlookers
    Full of rambunctious
    cheer...Just maybe...
    children are playing….
    Somewhere out there
    Sadly….
    here… As grown-ups scurry about...
    empty is the
    playground
    The precious future…….
    no where to be found……

    Today…..The Ghetto…is a Ghost- Town

I've said it before...and I'll say it again...

You are definitely one of my "Favorite Poets" and boy! have a missed your work!....a breath of "profound" air...it is

This piece put my stomach in knots...having been raised during
times past...and knowing the youth of today are only able to relate to
the realities of the "Ghost Town"...

But basically you've left me speechless...

    :spinstar:"A masterpiece of profound perception":spinstar:

    Brother,

This piece is priceless. There are a whole lot of Ghost towns in this country. A sad, sad state we're in. Keep scribing.
