WHO WERE THE SUPER-APOSTLES
By Andre Austin

Paul wrote in 2 Cor Chap 11 about some Super-Apostles preaching another Jesus and another Gospel. Its written to the Corinthians but who was he talking about avoiding another sect, or group of religious organization.

Michael Baigent in his The Messianic Legacy states: “Paul either fails to see James objectives or refuses to cooperate. In 2 Cor 11:3-4 he states explicitly that the Nazarean/Essence/Ebionites emissaries of James are promulgating “Another Jesus”, a Jesus different from the one is promulgating . Paul , in effect, betrays the commission entrusted to him by James and the Nazarean hierarchy” p.77

Paul writes “For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted…but I do not think I’am in the least inferior to those super-apostles” Paul goes on in verse 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an Angel of Light. It is not surprising, then , if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve”.

I would assume Paul was talking about Apostle James because in 2 Cor chapter 2:17 he said “Now the lord is spirit, and where the spirit is, there is freedom”. Paul expands this when he says “Because you are sons, god sent the spirit of his son into our hearts…so you are no longer a slave but a son” Galatians 4:6-7. The Ebonites taught freedom came by Knowledge of the truth because a free man doesn‘t sin see Gospel of Philip and John 8:34-35. John was Essence. Paul states to avoid “The opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge/Gnostic (1 Tim 6:20) Paul says not to turn to a “Different gospel” (Galatians 1:6) and he only speaks out about a different gospel when talking about James and Peter (Galatians 2:11-14). He uses the same language in 2 Cor 11 when taking about false Gospels. Just a plain use of inferences and deductions we can arrive at truth.

Paul thinks that a declaration of faith trumps works and deeds of righteousness. However John the baptist, an Essenic member said your freedom came through repentance and doing works of righteousness. I guess Paul wanted to make it easy for new recruits to join his new found gospel and religion.

So what makes me think Paul in 2 Cor 11 was talking about James and his sect?

1. “The community over which James presided. His prestige was evidently very great, and with a large number of people. The title “The Just, “The Righteous” is definitely of the Essenic variety”-Dead Sea Scrools by A. Davies p115 Was this the servants of righteousness Paul was talking about?

2. The Essence wrote The Manual of Discipline states “there shall be in the council of the community twelve men (12 Apostles), and there shall be three priests…who practice truth and righteouness”. Paul points these three out as three reputed pillars (Galatians 2:9) as James, Peter and John all Essence members.

3. Paul uses the term Angels of light. Clement of Alexandria notes that “those who keep nocturnal vigils make themselves like unto the angels called the Watchers. This is one of the Esenian names for angels-The Dead Sea Scrolls-By jean Danielou p.44 David Icke reports: “The book of Enoch also calls the gods the watchers, as did the Egyptians” -The Biggest secret p.5. The Point is that Paul accuses these false apostles of calling themselves Angels.

Furthermore, the Essence used language of spiritual battle between Sons of light vs. Angels of darkness. The Christians had the Angels of Darkness with Christ or the Holy Ghost but did used terms of light vs. dark to walk in one and avoid the other just like the Essence.

4. Historians of the times of Jesus were Philo and Josephus who reported on the three major Jewish sects, the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Essence. Both John and Jesus criticize the Pharisees and Sadducees in severest terms. The essences are not mentioned directly or indirectly, however st Paul has targeted the Essenses because he was on a different agenda, a different gospel and some other stuff. Jesus and John and others only name those sects they were opposed to.

5. I have further evidence Paul was talking about the Essence as “servants of righteousness. The gospel that Jesus and his disciples proclaimed to the Jews was in accordance with what the Old Testament predicted about a human Messiah reigning over a restored kingdom of Israel, a kingdom of peace and righteousness. The people of Israel were to repent as personal righteousness was necessary to become a member of the kingdom.
In contrast to Jesus' gospel was the gospel preached to the Jews and gentiles by the apostle Paul, which Paul refers to as "my gospel" and "the gospel that I preach" to differentiate it from what was being proclaimed by the disciples. In Paul's gospel the human Jewish Messiah became a divine saviour of all nations, the restored kingdom of Israel became a heavenly kingdom, and admittance to the kingdom was based on faith rather than personal righteousness, a concept in the letter of James rejects.
The two gospels caused great animosity between Paul and the original apostles, an animosity that is played down in the books of Acts and Galatians, but which still shows through in several places. When Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD the Jewish Christians in Jerusalem were scattered or killed, and the opposition to the gospel of Paul was largely eliminated. The gospel of Paul was incorporated into the gospel of Jesus, in many cases supplanting it. Righteousness is still in effect because “The dead were judged according to what they had done (works)” (Rev 20:12). And those who are hell bound are distinguished from heaven bound as righteousness or wrong. “They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteousness will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father” (Matthew 13:42). Paul wanted it to be easy as possible for non Jews to join the club so he eliminated the Faith & works doctrine of James, brother of Jesus and eliminated circumcision a surgery Jesus had as an infant of eight days old.

The works of Josephus reports that: “John , that was called the Baptist; for Herod slew him, who was a good man, and commanded the Jews to exercise virtue, both as to righteousness towards another, and piety towards god, and so to come to baptism; for that the washing [with water] would be acceptable to him , if they made use of it, not in order to the putting away [or the remission] of some sins [only], but for the purification of the body; supposing still that the soul was thoroughly purified beforehand by righteousness”-The Antiquities of the Jews 18:5.2

). Recall James very nickname was “The Righteous” see Eusebius History of the Church. Recall, also in the whole 2nd chapter of Galatians Paul distinguishes himself as an apostle to Gentiles and James, John and Peter as Apostles to Jews. Then, finally, the nail from Paul comes to the coffin in the last sentence of 2nd Galatians to take a jab directly at James to say: “if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing”. This attack was nothing new for Paul he already boxed it out with James over his “Faith & Works” doctrine. James said knowledge of “The perfect law that gives freedom” -(James 1:25) Paul had to be talking about James.

Paul is not suggesting that we should not obey God's laws. Paul is saying that simply following laws or rules are not going to make you righteous . Nothing can make you righteous and we can't earn a spot in heaven through our works ,but only through the good graces of God. This truth puts the glory on God and not on us.

James is not trying to say that simply obeying the law is what makes a true follower of Jesus. What James is trying to say is your faith in God is proven by your works. A true believer in Jesus is going to try to act like Jesus. It is not your acting like Jesus that saves you. Jesus is the one who saves you. Jesus will only save you if you believe in him and the proof of your belief in Jesus is your actions.

Well the Nt does quote Jesus saying the Righteous inherit the kingdom.
Paul seems to think the only right thing that can get you to heaven is to believe in Jesus on his pagan terms.

Paul and James aren't in harmony and I would follow Jesus brother before Paul who commited first degree murder aganist The people who knew and followed Jesus.
