    Freedom is just
down the road, over the mountain,
through the valley, on the other side of the mist
in the land of the tall trees.
    And that’s where I’ll be.
Forgetting the misery and misplaced hate that
was reflected from the mirrored images
which could not imagine the imagery
    that was formulated every time
    my face was shown.
So I said to hell with them and kept on
    going down the road.
Down the road I raced against demons
whose he-men were hunting me down.
Kept my frown down and mean-mug
    To the sky—
    expecting them ***** *** demons
to make an attempt on my life.
    And when they did, I was ready;
    punching, kicking, and splitting their wig;
    like a yard full—
    of bad *** kids…
I was handlin’ business……trying to be free

Cuzz I knew if I could just climb the mountain,
if I could just climb the hill, reach the peak,
I wouldn’t have to speak or wait for weeks
to eat, and worry about them bruises
    on my sister’s cheek.
I wouldn’t meet and greet “necks” and “t’s”
    whose decree
I would have to beat mentally
Every time we were eye to eye and cheek to cheek.

I was so satisfied as I reached the valley,
even if it conjured memories of alleys
with cats who had bats, bashing brothers
    for cash.
I was bobbing and weaving through
junkies and heathens who were breathin’
fire, with those “necks” and “t’s”
who I had fought with for weeks.
Undadig that the valley was way more than
    six feet deep.
    Making me face the reflection,
    The degradation I had done to my life;
ten years down with the pipe,
    unshackling my energy.

    Then I saw the mist….then I saw the mist…..
raised my fist, climbed out the pit
and danced in the midst of it.
Showered my soul from head to toe
realized I’d defeated all my foes and
would no longer be in the cold,
    or placed on hold—
I was a new shade of bold
    In that mist!!!

    That moment of complete bliss,
made me turn my head to the sky
    And witness…..

all of the beautiful tall trees!!!!

Such vivid images laced in this tale of determination. Your eyes were on the prize, the land amongst the trees, and nothing was going to stop you. This piece was quite inspiring. Bravo.

I need not point out the outstanding skill of this piece,
to do so would overpower the message.

    Strong piece!
