THE TRUE BIBLICAL HEBREW SABBATH IS ONCE A MONTH NOT WEEKLY
The Hebrew 7th day is thought to be every week by mainstream Christians but is it really every week or is it a misunderstanding of scriptures and a misunderstanding of early Hebrew culture?
I will prove this statement with historical accounts and Hebrew history that the weekly Sabbath is a misunderstanding of early Hebrew culture.
First I will quickly show the Calendar system of the early Hebrews. The Hebrew calendar was based on a Lunar calendar system used predominantly for religious observances. It determines the dates for Jewish holidays and the appropriate public reading of sacred text, and daily Psalm readings, among many ceremonial uses. In Israel, it was used for religious purposes, provides a time frame for agriculture and is an official calendar for civil purposes, although the latter usage has been steadily declining in favor of the Gregorian calendar or Solar calendar.
In the early Hebrew calendar, months are based on lunar months not the Solar calendar which modern day mankind uses and Rome used, there is a difference.
The beginning of each Hebrew lunar month is based on the appearance of the new moon.
What is the New Moon?
The new moon is the first phase of the Moon, when it lies closest to the Sun in the sky as seen from the Earth. The Moon is not normally visible at this time. Every New Moon marked the beginning of a new month in the Hebrew culture.
Here are the scriptural examples of the Hebrew lunar calendar.
1. Genesis Chapter 1-14
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
2. Psalms Chapter 104-19
He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down
3. Apocrypha ECCLESIASTICUS Chapter 43 -6-8
He made the moon also to serve in her season for a declaration of times, and a sign of the world.
From the moon is the sign of feasts, a light that decreaseth in her perfection.
The month is called after her name, increasing wonderfully in her changing, being an instrument of the armies above, shining in the firmament of heaven.
Now the question remains did the Hebrews practice a Sabbath on
every Friday the answer NO! HELL NO! lets prove it.
First lets understand the Extinct Culture of the ancient Hebrews starting with their month to month practice of the New moons and Sabbaths.
Lets first find out how they observed the beginning of Every month.
The new moon signifies the start of every Hebrew month, and is considered an important date and Sabbath holiday in the Hebrew calendar.
The following verses Gives you clear description of keeping the New Moon at the beginning of every month as a Sabbath:
1. Numbers Chapter 28-11
And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot
2. Numbers Chapter 10-10
Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
This scripture in Amos proves the Hebrews kept a New Moon sabbath every month.
3. Amos 8-5 "Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat,"
According to the historical records the Hebrews celebrated the New Moon Sabbath on the first day of Every month. Then 7 days later they celebrated the HOLY SABBATH in which the daily sacrifice stops no sacrifice of animals on this day.
The prophet Ezekiel gave us the best understanding on the Hebrew culture new moons and how and when the sabbaths were observed giving us CLEAR understanding and connecting with the words of Moses in Exodus Chapter 20- 8-10
Ezekiel Chapter 46-1
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
lets review Ezekiel said that every new moon(1st day of the Month) the Gates of the inner court of the Temple WILL BE OPEN and 6 days from the New Moon it will be closed then opened on the 8th day of every month which is the HOLY SABBATH
Example:
1 day of Every month is a New Moon Sabbath. Now count 7 days from the New Moon
thats 8, the 8th day of every month was a Holy Sabbath not once a Week but once every 8th day of the month
Now compare this info too exodus account
Exodus Chapter 20- 8-10
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Grammar note: notice the scripture keeps using the word Sabbath day in the singular not plural
That means one, one day out of 30 is a Holy Sabbath.
Six days you will work that means the Temple would be closed as well for 6 straight working days
Understand!
