she said she don’t want a man…
she wants a poet

this took me aback
a bit

she said a poet don’t
stay for breakfast
no
but he be's UP all night
and rises again before
dawn

to record new day
breaking his
fast on
high hills of meditation

seeing the gleam of
understanding spread
across my face
she continued,
with a look of
muted incredulity

and you know my midnight
inspirations be of
an intensity
I gotta rise
gird up my thighs
and climb the
mount of MY meditation
~ and the
morning speaks
in my OWN tongue

no

she said,

I don’t want a man

a man brings
preconceived notions
& a contrived walk
and words
about ‘commitment’
that his deeds
won't talk

no
a man gives
what he thinks
I want
says what his heart
don't even believe

and be all, "good intentions"
& "I never meant to
deceive"

but I wants me a poet
to rhyme with me
in bed

I needs me a poet
to soul~scribe
what’s never
been said…

throughout my whole
in his indelible ink
with the signature
of his hand

no, she said
I needs me a POET
not an "idea" of a
man…
